522/625 fees?

If I subscribe to dish with a used 522 or 625 would it still be grandfathered for dvr fees?

My local installer seems to feel I would have to pay the fee and that no fee was only to original purchaser

If I would have to pay a fee, how would I record from a 322 (which is what the installer wants to sell me). Most vcrs no longer record, including mine, only play videos

All newish DVRs such as the 522 and 625 have a DVR fee associated with them. To avoid this fee altogether, you need a Dish 501/508 or 725 (or the 7200?), any of which can be had on the used market. If you already have a 522, you are going to be stuck with the fee unless you subscribe to the Dish DVR Advantage program (min package AT200), or America's Everything Pack.

Receivers without the DVR fee are the 501/508 and 721, I believe everything else has a fee.

Correct. The device is grandfathered, not the subscriber. Also, DVR-A can now be had with AT100.
