622 and external HDD question

If I replace my receiver will the recordings on my HDD be OK or will they be lost?

I was told that the external HDD was formatted to the specific receiver and would not work with a different one. This would be a typical BS trick from Dish so I though I'd ask.

As long as the receiver is on the same account you should be good to go... only DIRECTV receivers are married to the EHDD...

Perfect answer. There should be no problems using your EHD on the replacement receiver. If it's transferred from a DVR to a non-DVR (or vice versa), it would need to be formatted, also would need to be formatted if it was going to a receiver on another account.
