622 ViP - Dish 1000 Question

Hello,

I received my ViP 622 receiver yesterday with an install date of May 11. I live near Dallas and have Dish 500 - pointing to 110 and 119.

In ordering the ViP 622, I was told that I would need Dish 1000. On another occasion, I was told that my Dish 500 would work. That contradicting information came from Dish Tech Support .

Here are my questions:

1. Do I need Dish 1000 for the ViP 622?

2. If the answer is no, then what strategy should I use to get the install date moved up (earlier)?

I realize I'm lucky that I actually received the ViP 622 given some of the back orders taking place. I also don't want to wait 2 weeks and just look at the ViP 622 sitting on the floor. I appreciate any guidance you may have. Thanks.

You didn't specify whether you bought or leased your receiver, or what programming package you'll end up with. Regardless, if you want full HD content a lot of it is on the 61.5 sat., mirrored on the 129 sat. The D500 can't receive either of those and also 110/119. The D1000 is designed to get all three, 110/119/129. 61.5 requires a "wing" (second) dish. There is a lot of comment in these threads that a second dish is also preferable for 129 to optimize signal strength, YMMV. You could leave your D500 as-is and add the second dish pointed at 129. It is likely that your work order will include a D1000 - call and find out - but you might be able to negotiate with E* and/or the installer to go with the 2-dish option if you prefer. It is also possible that you can't "see" 129 from the location of your D500 due to its low angle vs. terrain or obstructions, so you might need a second dish anyway. Are you planning to get your HD locals? I believe they will be on 129.

In any event, call several times and talk to different CSRs to request a move-up, you might get lucky. You might also call Tech Support, ask your same questions, and also ask them for the move-up...

Thank you for the information, bhelms!

I will be leasing the receiver. Dish HD programming is Gold with locals.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Post your location, someone will tell you if the 2 Dish option is viable

I just recieved my 622 and I'm considering a self install to replace the 942 which I did myself. I currently have dish 500 at 110/119 and a wingman at the 61.5. I live in Northen CA.

1. Do I need to swing the 61.5 to 129?
2. Is the HD content on 129 the same as 61.5?

Obvisouly it would be eaiser to leave as is, but I want all the new HD (locals) content the 622 gives. I've never had any dropout issues on the 61.5. Thanks for the info.

Another Dallas install......FYI.....

I had 2 dishes for my 211.. One 500 at 110/119, the other at 61.5.

When my 622 got installed, there was a cabling issue that would not allow a second cable to be run to the 622.

They took down my 500 single LNB looking at 61.5 and put up a D1000...

So, ended up with D500/twin on a 301 and 508 with DP34 now with 2 extra ports open, and the D1000 with single cable (no switch) going to 211 and the other going to 622 with separator.

If I ever upgrade to another dual tuner, I'm already set.

Talk about a Forward looking vision of the installers! Nothing short of Brilliant!;)

I live in EDH too. I use a 622 and a 942 with d1000 (129), but the hd channels, except locals and few others, are mirrored between 129 and 61.5 so you should be ok with 61.5. Not sure where the SAC hd locals are going though, i thought i read 110 or 119 which would be great.
