I don't understand how they are adding FOX (22) in HD in the Bangor, Me DMA, if FOX HD is not available OTA. Dish's equipment is at WLBZ (NBC) 2, so I would think it would be hooked up OTA. I don't think they ran a fiber all the way to FOX & WVII in order to pick up FOX in HD.

Methinks we need an update, as I imagine these all went to E15, not E3, E6 or E12.

I do find it disappointing that some stuff went on TP17, as I think the hope was this would go to spotbeam from E12.

Digiblur has already stated that it will not say "EchoStar 15" until the move is complete, since the stream information does not have satellite identification.

I just updated the TID list on the uplink PC to reflect E15 now. Along with the new file format for TheList's new features...check them out.

There's a chance that TPs 17, 19, 21 and 23 will be used for spotbeams on E-12 but if not, this might be an indication of the E-12 power and/or uplink limitiations.

It is also possible that it could still move to spot beam. They could just be checking the uplinks out now and then later when they have the E15 moves all done, turn on more spots on E12 and move the locals from CONUS to spot.

There's many different ways this can be done. The cable company here originally used point to point microwave to get the locals into their network.

There's also no shortage of fiber on the poles, you don't need your own private feed. In all seriousness they could just pull them all in from a basic cable connection right at WLBZ.

I talked with the head Engineer at ABC/FOX & he said that they won't be getting FOX in HD. He said they haven't set anything up to do so. It would take a lot of work to do that he said.

Also fox is not on cable in HD, is it?

Josh

There is a post in the Dish area in regards to the engineers. Dish and Directv make deals with the owners of the stations so the local affiliates more often than not have no idea about the contracts signed

according to wiki the Fox is in HD on cable
WFVX-LP is the primary Fox and secondary MyNetworkTV-affiliated television station for Central and Eastern Maine that is licensed to Bangor. It broadcast a low-powered analog signal on UHF channel 22 from a transmitter in East Eddington near the Penobscot and Hancock County line. It can also be seen on Time Warner Cable channel 4 and in high definition on digital channel 704.

We shall see. I wouldn't be surprised if Dish uses a local cable company to feed the locals into their network somewhere in the country.

Sure it is.. That's how I get it right now.. It's been in HD on cable forever. :) On my TV I believe it's channel 88.1. DirecTV also offers it in HD, which they started around mid-2008. DirecTV also started offering SD locals around April of 2008. Dish started SD locals here in Dec 2005.. :)

They could possibly be making a slot for it in HD for them to go HD later on?

You never know they could pull it from clear QAM somewhere. The local station themselves a lot of times are left in the dark on some of these things. Seen it too many times since Dish deals with the parent company and not the station themselves.

So maybe they will pull the FOX HD right from the Time Warner cable one. I sure hope they do, I really like FOX.

Directv has FOX in HD, because it has it's equipment at Fox / ABC studios.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully Dish will figure out some way to get the FOX HD feed.

That'd be quite a jerk job if so. I see a lot of DirecTV dishes here and I believe that having FOX in HD is part of the situation since it's only a digital SD subchannel over the air (and a weak signal too).

I get ClearQAM with my Cable Internet connection. It'd make the most sense to me to pull it from the cable company. I don't know if they have to tell TW if they're doing that or if they already have permission because they worked something out with the station.

Well, I sure hope they are going to do that. I wish that Scott or someone could look to see if it actually is a HD feed up on the Sat. But it might be a slate.
