811 problem I thought was fixed

When setting up to record, if you turn the 811 off, it will power on, start the VCR but will have only a black picture until you press a remote button. If you leave it on (which I usually do but spaced on this try) it works ok. I thought this "undocumented feature" was corrected.....

This problem was never fixed. However, if you don't power down, it will record OK.

I have found that if I set an event to come on at a random channel one minute before the program I want to record comes on then have another event one minute later switch to the channel that you want to record, it comes in fine, records without any problems, no black screen. I have my VCR timer set to turn on at the time of the second event. Just a hassle to input two events to record one show but it works.

Or, he could just leave the 811 turned on. It's just a wee bit simpler, no?

Yes, I have to admit, leaving it on is simpler. Unless one of your family members turns it off then it should work ok.
