if I wanted to paint my old 85cm dish, would I need any special paint? I thought I read somewhere certain paint will either mess with the signal, or not stick to the dish. Let me know if you've painted your dish and with what kind of paint. I'm thinking of Black for the very cold and snowy winters here that start in Nov. and still are going strong sometimes in April. Thanks, Chad

I think the preperation, and paint, would be determined by what material the dish is made of. I think about any color is fine, as long as it's not "high gloss" as that could reflect the sun into the feed, destroying the electronics. Flat would be my choice, or at least semi. Here's some discussion threads to look over.

It's probably mentioned in one of the multiple links Fat Air so kindly listed above, but ...
Some of the pebble-surfaced molded dishes shouldn't be sanded flat prior to painting.
Just go over 'em lightly with a ScotchBrite pad to give the surface some bite.

I never get too aggressive with any of the surfaces, but it's the molded which are more delicate than all-metal dishes.

im not positive but i think i read you can not use any paint that contains lead or it will mess up the signal....
