What is the output resolution for a 921 for SD signals? Is it 1080i? Adjustable?

What is the output for a 501?

I am going to be sending signal to HD that up converts to 540p or 1080i so would like to know what I will be dealing with. Does anybody know of problems in doing this?

The 921 can either be in SD or HD mode. in SD mode of course it is only 480i. In HD mode, you can set the output to 480p, 720p or 1080i. Everything will be output in that resolution, so SD video will be scaled up by the internal scaler in the 921. Some Display devices will scale up much better than the 921 can, and others will not be as good. There is really no way to tell without trying. I have found that my Sony Projector does a much better job than the 921 on Sd video, so I use the Sd outputs when watching Sd programming.

The 501 is a SD only device, so it's output is 480i on either Composite or Svideo.

Thanks. Just to make sure I understood. The SD is 480i but it is scaled up to 1080i and would go through either the DVI or component if you chose. Otherwise it can go through the S video at 480i and get scaled by the projector. Is that what you are saying? I am new to this so be patient.

Maybe this will help.

There's two sides to the equation: Input (Content), Output (Feed to TV).

On the input side, SD is always 480i while HD can be 480p, 720p, or 1080i.

On the output side, the SD jacks (composite, S-Video) will always be 480i - no matter what the input is! The 921 "scales" it down if necessary.

The HD jacks (component, DVI) will be 480p, 720p, or 1080i - depending on what you select via Menu-6-9. The 921 "scales" the content up if necessary. Exception: When the 921 is booting, the initial HD output is 480p until the box gets rolling, then it switches to whatever was selected.

In other words.

If you watching a program transmitted in 480i

And if the 921 is in SD mode (Menu-6-9 480i selected)
Then The 480i video is passed through as 480i and output via the composite and s-video jacks

But if the 921 is in HD mode (Menu-6-9 480p selected)
Then video is upconverted to 480p and output via the component and DVI jacks

Or if the 921 is in HD mode (Menu-6-9 720p selected)
Then video is upconverted to 720p and output via the component and DVI jacks

Or if the 921 is in HD mode (Menu-6-9 1080i selected)
Then video is upconverted to 1080i and output via the component and DVI jacks

Hi,

In HD Mode are both the DVI and component jacks active at the same time?

Thanks,

Jay

In HD mode the DVI and component jacks are both active. I feed by projector via DVI and another HD in the other room via Component at the same time.

Are you sure? For me when the DVI Digital is being used the analog component shuts off. Now if your using the Analog RGB off the DVI that's a different story.
