ABC7 WZVN-TV and NBC2 WBBH-TV, both operated by Waterman Broadcasting Corp., began broadcasting HDTV on October 31, 2002, making High Definition Television service available for the first time in Southwest Florida.
ABC7 and NBC2 are the only local television stations transmitting a true High Definition Television signal and Waterman Broadcasting is proud to be the first company on the cutting edge of this new technology in Southwest Florida. The new HD transmitters are part of a new $8 million complex recently constructed in Southern Charlotte County, which includes a new 1500-foot tower. HDTV Feedback

Using new generation digital tuners and HD television sets, local viewers will now be able to watch the complete NBC programming line-up in digital quality and many programs in true HD. These signals are free and available only over the air at this time. NBC2-HD/DT is found on digital channel 15.

Just as the transition from black and white to color in the 1950’s, this will require the consumer to purchase a new High Definition Television to take full advantage of all that this new technology has to offer.
By December of 2006, DTV will completely replace present-day television that is seen over the air. Until then, viewers also will continue to receive the current analog TV signals of NBC2 either over the air on Channel 20 or via cable on Channel 2, with no change in service. This means for the average viewer the migration to HDTV can proceed at their pace.
