I currently lease an H3 and J2, and have for years. Also have Dish Protect
I am making an addition to the house and will want another Joey out there, this one about 200 feet away.
The J2 is wired thru a Hybrid Tap 203962 in the back of the hopper.
I am looking for advice on how to proceed.
Own or lease, how about existing equipment?
Do it myself?

a joey 4 is 50.00 to lease or 100.00 to own. the fleese puts you in another two owning does not!!!
when we upgraded to the joey 4's from the 4k joey wich is crap.. we paid the 100.00 they installed them free no contract!!!
i am unsure about the 200ft away that might be an issue..
we have the protection plan also..
an owned joey is 5.00 a month and not the 7.00 a month as the leased joey is
we have a hopper 3
1 wireless joey
and 5 joey 4's :biggrin
hopefully that Hipkat can chime in on the 200ft situation!!! i know the hopper max distance from the LNB is 200 FT they don't say anything about the joey's that i could find..
We own everything as well

200; feet away from the Dish? The Hopper or the Hub?? If all the cabling is up to par, it could work. I did one about that far once at a farm, adding a Joey to the barn

The new Joey will be 200 ft from the hybrid tap attached to the hopper, which has only one outgoing port.
Is there any advantage to me doing this myself, or is there a disadvantage not going thru Dish Service?

are you going to lease the joey or buy it 🤔. buying don't put you in another 2 year like fleesing does... if buying DISH has the cheapest prices a joey 4 is $100.00 owned vs the $ 50.00 to fleese it. that same joey costs more on other websites!!! How technically inclined are you also 🤔. do you have the protection plan if so they might want to send someone out and teach you how to use the joey sounds crazy but that's what we were told  .

I called Dish last night to get our Locals turned on for the 2025 Bowl Season and asked about replacing our Leased 4K Joey with a Joey 4. The CSR said that the Joey 4 was not available for our account. They did not explain, just said that it wasn't showing as an option on their screen.

We have a leased Hopper 3 and a 4K Joey that was installed in 2016. It's an EA installation as we don't have a good LoS to the Western Arc due to our neighbors' trees.

that don't sound right!! a month in we swapped from the 4k joey to the joey 4!!! no issues.. we own everything and don't lease!!! a joey 4 is only $ 100.00 to buy and $ 5.00 and not the $ 7.00 a month. we have the wa twin hybrid pro western arc. i don't see what the difference in the arcs would be.. you could spend a little more and buy it from solid signal and just call in to activate the joey 4... i also think if you buy it they will activate it as long as it's nothing crazy like 10 joeys on a hopper!!! the joey 4 is $135.00 on solid signal

That's $132 plus tax and shipping. To ship one to me would cost $156.28 total.

That's $135 plus tax and shipping. Shipping can be prohibitive.
Agree but it might be the only way he can get one though without dealing with dish!!!! if he has prime there $ 145.00 there... amazon might be the cheaper route to go. dish there $ 100.00 they come and install it!!! though id'e pay more to avoid the clown shows. i would keep calling and keep asking why first and be like there's people out there with hopper 3's that have the joey 4's

why not just call dish and tell them he want's to buy one for the 100.00 🤔 ??? that's what we did and we charged it to our acct... they came out and installed it and activated it!!! No issues other than the mix up but that's been sorted out :)
