Adding Channels Manually

I was trying to manually add the CW network feeds to G17, transponder 1 (H-3720).

I used PID Edit under Advanced Scan. I had no problem adding the first channel. I added the second and third channel with the editor. All three channels were present on the PID editor screen.

I exited and went to TV mode. Only the last entered channel appeared on the channel list. I tried rebooting between channel additions and used different channel names. Nothing worked.

Firmware is 0.9.5020. I had the same problem with older firmware. None of the third party channel editors appear to have channel add capability.

Is there a solution to this problem?

I remember the the older post, but I was unable to find it. Mpeg 2 hasn't been a problem.
The problem is that I can only load 1 channel. The first channel disappears when a second is loaded.
The channel that I load works fine (except that it won't record, but that's a different issue).

you do the PID scan and add all 3 PIDs in there then scan the TP. If you add them one at a time you'll have that issue. DO the PID entry for all 3 at once. It will scan them in properly
As noted, make sure both audio and video say MPEG2

Iceberg, Are these steps correct? (This is from memory, I don't have access to the AZBox right now)

1. Go To Advanced Search Menu
2. Select Satellite & Transponder
3. Select TP search, Press OK (nothing will be found - is this step needed?)
4. Select PID Edit
5. ADD new PID, Enter PID value (same as VPID), VPID, APID, Audio & Video - select MPEG2, Leave PCR blank (or what value should this be?),
6. Repeat #5 for 2 additional channels
7. Exit PID Edit
8. Select TP search, Press OK
9. Exit & go to TV

I think I have a different take on this than Ice. I pretty much do what is described above except that :
STEP 3 is NOT requirred.
STEP 5
PCR PID-VPID
I left the PMT PID at 0, since there IS NO PMT PID
Enter ANYTHING for the SIDs, as long as they are all different.
STEP 8 I DIDN'T DO THIS. I just exited completely out.
For me, I also didn't have to do them all at once, as Ice suggests. I did them with separate processes, and had no problems.

The one thing that I DID notice though, was that when I went back to the G17 page of the satellite channel list, the channels did not appear in the list at first. Instead, I had to hit exit, go up to ALL, and go back to channels, and the new channels were now all at the end of the list. I then hit exit again, selected satellite, and down to G-17 again, and now the channels were all listed as they should be. This worked fine for me.

Basically I think that if you enter duplicate SIDs, then you'll confuse the Azbox, and if you enter a PMT PID, I think that it might also confuse the Azbox, since that PID doesn't exist, although I really haven't tested to see if it gets confused.

I agree on not needing to perform this step. If you just added the channel(s), why scan for them?

I have noticed this as well. It is as though you need to "refresh" the view.

I haven't experimented with this enough, either, to be able to say what happens. But, it seems logical to follow such a guideline.

OK, adding SID values solved the problem.

I did the same as I did originally with one exception. Originally, I left the SID field blank.
This time I used 1, 2, and 3 for East, Central, and West SID values.

I set PCR = VPID
I set PMT PID = 0 (default setting)(video goes black with other settings)

The PID editor is all that is needed. There's no need to scan.
The AZBox won't save the settings correctly unless a unique SID value is provided. That was the problem.

Excellent work VC2!

Why don't you rewrite your procedures (as you wrote them in post #6) with the changes and repost them? Might come in very handy for others! :)

Here is what I did:
Go to Sat/TP Edit
Enter the TP Freq "
in this case "3720"
Symbol rate
in this case "26700"
FEC
in this case "3/4"

in this case "DVB-S/QPSK
save it
Then back-out to Advanced scan and highlight the TP Freq I want.
go to pid edit and it is empty: ok now hit the green button to add
Key in name : CW East (use remote)
PMT Pid = 0
Sid = 1
PCR=101
V/pid = 101

A/type = mpeg 2
Save "YES".
Now hit the green button again!
Key in name : CW West
PMT Pid = 0
Sid = 2
PCR=201
V/pid = 201
V/type Mpeg-2
A/pid=202

Now save it."YES" then...
Hit the green button again to add a tp

Now as an addition to this thread:
If you want to record these channels using the azbox place an entry into the PMT Pid field.
Use: 123 for the first channel's PMT
Use: 456 for the second channels PMT
Use: 789 for the third channels PMT

You will now be able to record these channels using the azbox.

Very Good!

I initially had the PMT PID entry set equal to the VPID value. This resulted in a black screen with audio. Leaving the value at zero restored the video.

The values suggested here for SID (Service ID) and PMT PID (Program Map Table Packet ID) are obviously made up, but work for our purposes. It would still be nice to know the real values that are used by CW for each channel.

I tried this and was able to make recordings, however, the resulting files are corrupt.

The resulting file cannot be played on a PC with VLC. Good recordings from other channels have these tables.

It appears that the real PMT PID value is required for good exportable recordings. If AZBox doesn't know the real PMT PID value, it can't record the PMT packets.

ok but you didn't ask that before...
I just gave you info to record it to the azbox, and ability to watch it from the box. Since I don't watch tv on my pc I can not help you with that one..:(

But it is good to know for future reference.
