Good evening,
I have some experience in Satellite from the military. I am looking for specifics for AFN and it is surprisingly not as easy to find as I expected. I am in Bangkok, and according to sat beams.com I can get Intelsat 18 at 38.2dbW with a 190 cm dish. The look angle is extremely low (1.5°) and I do not know if this is realistic. Also is there a difference in quality for LNB so I can maximize my signal quality?

Thanks in advance for the help!

:welcome to the forum pbart77 . Unfortunately it would be unrealistic to pick up 180°E from your location. AT 1.5° elevation there is too much signal loss from the miles of atmosphere the signal traverses. You would need extraordinary equipment for that. Big bucks

If you are no longer active military, DoD or State Dept., I don't think you can get an AFN decoder. At least not officially, so ensure you can get a decoder before you go to all the hassle of putting up a dish.

The North East Asia beam on Koreasat 113E doesn't cover Bangkok. One possibility is the direct-to-sailor service on 64E, but that only delivers AFN Prime, News and Sports.

There are a number of satellite TV dealers and retailers in Bangkok. Perhaps one of those can offer local advice.
