And the Next HD Channel Is....

ahh.. just send up a few more satellites and turn all of the above on.. it'd make the dish farm look more impressive and give the good folks down at the hoa association something to discuss.

I voted for ESPN2, but I wouldn't mind seeing StarzHD and MaxHD, also. I'd feel like I was getting a little more for my AEP $$$.

Brad

I could have sworn I saw something about StarzHD going off the air due to a lack of subscribers. I could be wrong.

I believe that was EncoreHD, which IMO was one of the best channels on the old VOOM DBS service. I heard it would be offered later once again after HD becomes more mainstream. Of course, who knows what's going to happen.

BTW, I would love to see EncoreHD make its return to the airwaves! :)

Are the people voting for the Networks (ABC, etc) doing so with the understanding that most of them would not be eligible to receive those channels?

For example, do they qualify to receive CBS-HD now?

Why not? I called Dish today to see what else was available in the way of HD aside from their HD pak. As usual they told me Voom HD's but I would need an additional dish. No thanks!!! I asked about network HD's, the rep put me on hold for about a minute then comes back and says I could get the CBS-HD feed, but that also requires another dish!!!

I just want my networks in HD!!! How hard can it possibly be to provide it to those of us who are in digital white areas!!! Come on now E*!!!

UHD all the way baby. I've been missing Battlestar in HD every since old V* went dark...I'd be a happy, happy camper if they lit up that channel. Damn that's some good TV.

Yes. As I posted in another hread, we're the old-timers, the ones with specially coded account numbers (8255-11) that converted from C-Band and are grandfathered in for multiple network feeds. I get 4 DMAs (NY, DEN, COS, LA) myself - except for ABC which was pulled from me by my local affiliate - KRDO SUCKS.

Tom, just because YOU are a satellite newbie (definition: anyone that started with a dish smaller than 1 meter), doesn't mean everybody is. ;)

I NEVER stated that NO ONE would be eligible to get network HD feeds.

Just that the vast majority would not. A few people popping up to say they would be eligible doesn't mean much.

Now if someone can make a case that 60% of Dish's subs could get the network HD feeds, then that would change my perspective.

What I would like to see,

USA, Comedy, A&E, IFC, Spike, CMT, MTV2, (mtv main could fall off the face of the earth ) VH1, Disney, Nickelodeon(s), Cartoon network, TLC, NGEO, Animal Planet, Nasa, Travel, Encore, Starz, Scifi.

Ones I can do without, any of the sports channels.

I want UHD since there is nothing new on Voom, why waste the bandwidth? They've kind of consolidated most of it on the current 10 channels anyway. How about Playboy Spice HD? That was great on Voom while it lasted.

Just an FYI...It's Starz' analog C-Band satellite transmission that's shutting down on 12/31/05 due to subscriber decline, not their HD service. On another note, aside from my vote for Universal HD, I, too, would love to see an HD feed of National Geographic Channel--in true HD and not some piss-poor upconversion of 4:3 material horizontally stretched to fit 16:9 (read: TNT HD  ).

Darrell,

there is not much on UHD either.... All repeats, repeats repeats and bad bad bad bandwith.... that makes you throw up... The US OPEN was unwatchable with so much pixelation that it was sickening on D*.

P.S.

I do not think E* should add any more HD channels until they have enough bandwith to support it. I will really hate them to go the DirecTv way. Besides Starz HD is hardly an HD channel... We have enough with TNT HD. Whatever is on Cinemax HD, you will see in HBO HD in a month or so... ESPN2 HD may have something good in the future but how many?

My OTA antenna works wonderfully. I get 7 channels, all solid and locked in. Great image quality. No way in the world that I would pay D* or E* to get the same stations in a compressed format.

I'm for more movie channels. Starz, Cinemax, more HBO or Showtime, whatever. I love movies in HD. I already get all of the networks in HD (see above) but don't watch much on them - standard network programming sucks for the most part.
