I saw Douglas Adams at a World Science Fiction Convention in Chicago many years ago. He was asked about the answer to "Life the Universe and Everything" and why it was funny. He said "It's funny because its a number".
If you haven't read the five books in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Calaxy Series, please do. They are very funny.
