I have an Wineguard amplified omni-directional antenna. I have always heard the higher you get the antenna the better.

When I raise the antenna to about 33 feet it does worse there than when it is at 25 feet. Any reason having the antenna lower does better than higher?

Thanks

One thing that can happen is that raising the antenna brings a distant station above the horizon. The local station signal styrength stays the same, the distant one gets significantly stronger and they then interfere. Most likely the distant is on the same or an adjacent channel.

There are other possible reasons as well.

In general, higher is better but as in almost all OTA situations, it takes some trial and error to find the sweet spot, sometimes even to the point of doing things that seem counter-intuitive to better reception (such as lowering the antenna).
