Antenna sales are rising, in another sign of churn in TV watching
I'm not sure a survey of Twin Cities antenna installers represents a bellwether for the broader category of OTA in the US. It sounded to me like the demand was up some time ago and the supply continues to dwindle.
Outside of Sears, I think there's just one outfit in my area that is licensed to install TV antennas and advertises it. The Geek Squad pasting mudflaps in windows doesn't really count when your 50 miles from the towers.
Interest is perhaps up because a lot of people have forsaken OTA over the years and they want to see how it has changed with all the recent buzz (as well as the absence of local channels from some of the OTT services). Ultimately, I think it's unfortunate timing as OTA is perhaps as bad now in terms of quality as it has ever been and it seems likely to get worse before it gets better.
so hows an antenna work with so many tuner less monitors (no tuner its not really a tv)
are people buying tuner boxes also?
There is a return to tunerless tvs, but most I see still have them. With such a drop in price for tvs, I don't see the advantage to not including an ota tuner.
i agree there is no advantage, but its happening for some reason. it cant lower the price that much
but if/when atsc 3 comes out everyone will need an external anyway
I have 3. When I had Dish, we only needed one. I like my sub-channels (METV, Create, AntennaTV).
Their is one in my area plus I used to work for him he is always busy with new installs. KAS in Angola Indiana.
IIRC, only LG panels and most projectors didn't come with tuners last year and I'm pretty sure LG has seen the error of their ways. Projector people are used to having things that are more modular I suppose.
From what I have researched, TVs have no tuners due to tax laws. Without a tuner, the device is considered to be a monitor, and thus taxed less than a TV for import duties.

I think you're getting hot and bothered over a situation that no longer exists. What current model panels don't have a tuner?
As for why they were excluded previously, I expect it was more an issue of not wanting to pay the royalties due to ATSC patent holders.
Vizio tried that and had to go back to putting tuners in their latest models. I for one wanted one of the Vizio's, but passed on it, due to no tuner.
Agreed. MeTV, Antenna TV and COZI should be on satellite but aren't. Nick at Night and TV Land used to show all of these oldies programming but decided that it wanted new production. Now I rarely watch TV Land and Nick at Night.
Metv and Cozi are on satellite for free C band and Ku band John Henderson. Check out the FTA section.
MeTV is on Dish Network actually.

Yeah, I have the C Band version of MeTV on SES1 at 101w. I hear Cozi is on Ku band, but I've been too lazy to hook up one my Ku dishes to pick it up. I thought that it would be nice to have it on OTA, so I didn't have to switch on the C Band dish for a few channels. I also like to watch local content on the local channels for news and weather.
It’s on 103 Ku
Thanks, I'll wait for the thunderstorms to end and maybe pull out a 39" dish out of the garage.
COZI is also on 105W C-band 3780 H 30000 dvb-s2 8-psk. I can get it with my 'new' 7.5' dish, and that's not even completely tweaked-in as of yet.
I might give that a try. I have an AZ Box and it does DVBS2.
I also like ion life as well as the channels that you mentioned. I also like tuff tv as well
