I am selling my UTV's, are their any risks with including my cards (after the units have been deactivated)? Would the buyer even benifit from having my card or would he still need a new one from DTV regardles?

card with utv

The only benefit is that you will get more cash for the unit with card when you sell it!!!

The new sub will need to get a new card according to dtv regs, Directv might even give new customer a new card with swap of the old access card

I just called DTV and was told that if I sold it that the buyer woukd not be able to activate it at all because DTV no longer activates used equipment.

Did I just get an anal rep or could this be true?

That sounds pretty screwed up to me. I do know that there is more hassle activating recievers with DirecTv than Dish and that is one reason why I dont have DirecTv. Who wants to wait to get a new card and have to pay for it everytime you activate a used reciever or sign a year's contract everytime you buy a new reciever? Not me.

You would think that they would WANT someone to buy my two unactivated UTV receivers and activate them. Especially considering the $10/month UTV fee that they charge...

Keep the cards. There of no use to the buyer. They will need new cards unless they already have an account with active cards.
D* will activate used equipment, just not previously used cards from another acct. As recently as 2 weeks ago, I activated a used SD box with one of my existing cards after my D10 died. Later this week, I'm upgrading my HD box and plan to use my existing card in the refurbished receiver. You have to ask for a resolution specialist if the first level of CSR says they can't do it.

The used equip BS is just that - I've activated several several used boxes for myself & other customers with no problems; have even swapped cards from one unit to another to do this. (even though many people swear you cannot do this)

Why can you not activate the used card on DirecTv but on Dish Network you can? You would think that DirecTv would allow you to use the used cards along with the used recievers to cut down on the number of cards available out there. Isn't that the whole purpose of sending out a card with the reciever and not having them included with them? Are they trying to phase out an older card or something doing it this way?
