I've been trying to bottom feed on finding a second player, preferably an A-30. I'm not finding deals out there. Amazon is listing refurb units at $99. New at $354.

Somebody on eBay is selling a pile of used ones bundled with movies. They seem to go for around $120 with 10 movies (half of which I already own, although selection varies)

I was kind of hoping for a new unit for that $100 price. I thought that Mike had mentioned $79 A30s somewhere.

I suppose $120 isn't bad if you could get 6 good titles. That would be $60 worth of movies and $60 for the player, with the ability to sell the other 4 or 5. BTW, one unit went for $148, but it had Heroes, season 1 as one of the titles.

I'm just nervous about used units, especially since the guy has a spotty record on making good if the unit is defective.

jayn-j - I saw an A30 at my local BB last evening for $130. If you're interested I'll pick one (it) up for you. Not sure if they have more than one. Actually I'm kinda interested myself, but if there's only one and you want it I'll transact it for you. I also saw a demo unit in use at CC. I'm considering my HT purchase there. Maybe we can work that one into the deal. Didn't look to see which model, tho'...

Thanks. Actually I bought a refurb A30 off eBay this morning for $68. Doesn't come with the 2 discs, but it should do the job for me.

Bought the display A-3 at my local Wally World for $50, just the box, put it away for a spare. BB had 2 A-30's for $129 open box, already have an A-30, and 2 A-3's for spares. Should be good to go for me.

A few people were trying to unload their players on AVS. Also, check out half.com. Overstock.com appears to still live in mid-2007 with their media prices.

New, sealed players are definitely hard to find.

I did see 12 at that price on eBay, but alas, I was not smart enough to buy it at the time, and they seem to be a bit higher.

I will be looking for a second player as well; once the move is done, I'll want one on the FP and the LCD set.

I have made an interesting observation on the eBay units.

Most of them are listed by three companies; Dealtree, 2ndTurn and BestBuyOutlet. The unit I bought was listed by 2ndTurn, but the invoice I acknowlegement I received was from DealTree. Both of the listings are very similar in style, and almost identical to the BB Outlet listings.

I believe that both DealTree and 2ndTurn are fronts for BB and this is where they are disposing of the units coming in on their buy back deal. The ones from BB Outlet seem to go for 20% premium.

It is probably better to find a player without discs, as people are overbidding for the discs. I have seen broken units with 10 discs go for as high as $140.

Does anyone know where Wal Mart is disposing of their buy-back units?

Clicked on the CompUSA link and it's reporting "no longer available".

Saw a lonely A2 on the shelf at Wal*Mart today in the box, appeared to be unopened, for ~$70...

For those of you looking for secondary players, check out the LG BH200. (Ignore the Sammy combo)

It plays most mainstream US HD DVD's and is flawless with Blu-Ray profile 1.1 playback. Some obscure and porn HD DVD titles don't currently play. LG is actually working on that and supporting the unit.

I got a refurbished HD A20 from ebay for $79. It is serving my living room tv in full 1080p. Works great.

Leave it to me to buy more players after the format is killed ;)

Don't feel bad, I bought 2 players when the format died. An xbox360 for ripping to PC and an A30 for 1080p 24fps since my A1 did not have that.

I have seen clearanced out HD DVD players at our local Meijer grocery store going for around 80.00
