Anyone planning to buy the iphone 17?

It may matter to the legions who carry their iPhones in their back pockets.
I did a search on this and the story termed as "Bendgate" surfaced when one overweight person sat on their iphone 6 and the phone bent and the battery got warm, indicating it had internally shorted. There was a warning put out that you should not sit on your phone which some people do carrying in their back pocket. The only reported cases of the phone bending and catching fire, and exploding in the back pocket was a Motorola G30. Since the incident with the iphone 6, Apple has shifted to the extra hard Aluminum alloy 7000 series that is specified as aerospace grade for it's strength and hardness.
Apple's internal testing on the extra thin iPhone 17 Air (also known as iPhone Air) shows it withstands 130 pounds of force applied to the center without permanent bending, snapping back to shape. The iPhone 17 Air bends at approximately 190 pounds and remains functional, while the display cracks at 216 pounds as tested by independent test labs. The iPhone 17 Pro bends at around 200 pounds while staying operational.

There have been multiple reported cases of Android phones bending after being sat on, typically while carried in a back pocket. These incidents often stem from prolonged pressure and can affect the frame, battery, or internal components, though they're relatively uncommon under normal use. Samsung S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra use Titanium frames for prevention of bendgate, however, all phone makers suggest never carry phones in back pocket as sitting on them even with titanium frames has been known to crack the screen.

I'm going to post this under the iPhone 17 thread, but I'm not sure if this showed up in iOS 26 or if it was in iOS 18.5 previously.

I noted that there was this icon in the iOS Photos App that I hadn't noticed before.

Tapping it enables Spatial Scene, which lets you move your iDevice and show a "3D" photo. It doesn't seem to require a photo from an iOS device as it was available on pictures in my Photos gallery that were taken on my Canon EOS M6 and old Nikon Coolpix bridge camera. Here's a quick video of the effect using a picture I took yesterday:

I said I wasn't gonna upgrade from the 16pm to any 17, but I decided to get a pixel fold 10.

Kept it a week or so, and for whatever reason (iMessage) decided to send it back.

Ordered the 17 pro max and got it Thursday.

Not a huge difference from the 16.

Except in one area.

Battery life.

Aside from the iPhone XR I had back in the day, this thing had the best by FAR battery life of any phone I've had in almost a decade. Android, iOS, sh*t even windows phone.

BTW, iOS 26.1 is now out for iPhone, along with the OS 26.1 updates for all other supported Appley iDevices.

Bought a Motorola G Power 5G android phone as a spare and to use for some work stuff. Was tired of work stuff cluttering up my iPhone 16 Pro. Didn't take long to remember why I originally went to an iPhone. 4hrs doing updates to step up from Android 14 updates to Android 15 and latest updates for 15. Ads on the Play store above the app I searched for is something I don't really remember from the last android phone I had 13-14 yrs ago. Face ID on iphone has spoiled me too.

I just wanted a cheap phone mainly for work pictures or I would have got an 17 Pro and used my 16 for work stuff, but no need to spend that kind of money. I don't even have cellular service on the Motorola, just using it on WiFi and added my google voice number to it with the app.
