Are These Signal Levels OK?

I just got a Dish 622 installed about 2 weeks ago. My dish is a 1000.2 (or so I've been told).

While we've had some bad weather here in Cleveland, OH recently, I've experienced about 6 or 7 outages in the 2 weeks I've been a Dish subscriber. This outage rate seems way too high to me.

This morning is overcast and my signal levels for 110/119/129 are 60/75/50. Yesterday, at about noon, I had an outage and my signal levels were 40/42/10. Apparently, the outage was caused by the 129 signal level dropping too low.

Is there any way to better optimize my signal so that I don't experience the frequent outages that I have so far?

Does no reply to this posting mean that my signal levels are par? And that I should expect frequent outages due to bad weather?

Your SS doesn't look to bad. Your probably right about 129 causing the loss. 129 isn't the most stable satellite. Many people including myself put 129 on a dedicated 2nd dish. I have less issues with signal loss, but I'm also using a 24" dish.

What tp did you take the 129 reading on?

I have the same question!

PVR625

I get a 91/125 on 119 and 72/125 on 110 (on transponder 11)

Should I re-peak my dish or is that where it needs to be?

(I do seem to get outages with light rain)

I've been having issues out here in Chicagoland as well and have a tech coming out to check the dish today. Should there be a power box supplying power to a DPP44 switch and the dishes? I have 2 622's connected and the install guy today (who is re-peaking the dishes) is telling me that one is needed even though I have not had one for 18 months now.

I'm testing on transponder 19. That's the default for the test, so I don't change it.

Why do you ask? What difference would it make to test on the other transponders and how would I interpret the results?

Today is a clear day and I'm getting the usual 60/75/50 by testing transponder 19 on 110/119/129. However, some transponders on 129 are much lower than 50. Transponder 18, for example, is 30.

For 129, those signals are about right. If you search for satellite 129 in this forum, you'll find out the many complaints about it. You're not alone in losing the satellite signal with 129. We're all just hoping that someday it will get replaced.

As for a solution, a separate big dish for 129 seems to work better. A 24'' dish should help.

Thanks. That's what I thought, but I wanted either confirmation or suggestion for improvement.

Can the 1000.2 be "tweaked" to sqeeze a bit more signal out of 129? I've read some people say that the dish should be "peaked" for 129. Does that apply to the 1000.2?

The 1000.2 barely fits on the balcony of my condo. :D

Sure, you can try and sacrafice signal on 110 & 119 to get a better signal on 129.

The latest software update for the 622 included changes to the sat meters. The high end of the scales seems to be in the 70's now. Lost signal is supposed to be 10.

I'm not qualified to do this myself. Is this a "standard tweak?" In other words, is this something I can call Dish about to see if someone will come out here to make the adjustment?

Keep in mind I have a Dish 1000.2.

Does anyone know the answer to this question or should I maybe post it somewhere else?

Thanks.

Edit: My signal meter changed today (Although "help" does not say what acceptable ranges are.) Now I get 57/125 on 119 and 42/125 on 110

You should be able to get at between 8-10 pts. more if you repeak your dish.
You can just have someone at the Point dish screen with a phone or walkie-talkie and you can just slightly push the dish up and down and left and right. You'll know which way to go if the signal goes up.

Has anyone figured recommended transponders per satellite and signal strengths for peaking dish's with the new SS meter?

Thanks Randall :)

Nothing has changed with the satellites because of the new SS, for 119 and 110 always use TP11. For 129, I use TP31 because that's the highest.

And signal strengths? I am gettin 72 for tp11 on 119 and 61 on 110. I use 61.5 and am getting mostly 50's.

I have 3 seperate 1 meter Primestar dishes. Before the software change I had 119 and 110 maxed out on most transponders (125/125) 129 transponders were between 85 and 105. Since the software upgrade I have 84 on 110 t11, 85 on 119 t11 and 70 on 129 t31. Some of the transponders on 129 get as low as 55. Maybe this will help.

I just moved my 1000+, and with the latest software I'm getting:
(Satellite/Transponder/Signal)

129/9/34
119/11/70
118/11/60
118/10/50
110/11/62
110/10/50

I wish I checked my signal strengths before moving the dish. All I did was peak 119 (and yes, 70-72 was the highest I could get!).

I'll go through this thread again to see if with the latest software this is about right. It's a beautiful sunny day today, btw.
