I'm just getting started in FTA and I have to say it's a lot of fun. Does it replace cable or DirecTV or DISH? Well, basically no. However, I watch a lot less of it that I used to. If you're wanting a certain pay channel, like in your case, then no, you most likely won't get it. But, with my FTA setup and an OTA antenna for the local networks (digital, of course) I'm satisfied. Still have to have ESPN for the big games though. If you really get into it, get a big dish for those C-Band feeds. Can't wait till I get one!
Thank you for your service! I'm new to FTA too and don't miss pay TV at all, since I'm usually doing something else anyway, but it's a fantastic hobby. Digital OTA is just now in the testing phase in many Ontario cities so I'll have to wait for that. The first item on my list is a C-Band dish once we move next year, and maybe an analog receiver. I have to spend the grand a year I'm saving on something
