The only new phone that has my interest is the Tesla pi phone which is rumored to start at $357. But app compatibility and monthly service cost will determine whether I get one.
Any money left on the table by the cheap phone (the razor handle) will surely be extracted in network fees (the razor blades).

We need another alien spacecraft to crash at Roswell.
Apple needs more engineers who are visionary about things that matter to everyone. The Air Pod hearing aid feature is getting closer to valuable innovation than most things they've done in the last ten years (or the menstrual cycle stuff with the Watch if you're of the distaff gender of child-bearing age).

Contemplate how much R&D they've plowed through to try to keep their VR/AR and vehicle projects alive.

It isn't. I'm sorry if I implied that the iPhone 16e was.

What I was trying to say is there are a few members on the Forum who do not seem to have a problem paying over $1,500 for a folding smartphone from Google or Samsung. In that regard, Apple isn't the only company charging "too much" for their premium products.
Sorry if zI misread or misinterpreted your post. Still though I marvel that people are willing to pay so much (besides the two factors I cited.).

I do not think that the fact that there are other phones that have high price tags justify paying so much for these phones.

Yes the price of new phones is expensive but my first cell phone was $1500 and that was in 1986 dollars so overall you can get a lot more for less.

You miss my point. I Said that there are current phones with a similar level of features at a lower price. Many products are cheaper now then years ago but that does not mean that the highest priced model is reasonable.

I still think that the continued popularity of iphones is a combination of wanting the latest and greatest and loyalty to Apple. That is not an attack on Apple users.Tbey are entitled to buy whatever products they like.

Probably. But since "Apple Intelligence" is pretty much a nothingburger at this point, what are they going to release for this year's model? More mexapixels? As harshness mentioned previously, there is only so much more innovation you can cram into a phone. I don't plan to upgrade this year. Maybe not even for a few more years.
