April 2 Game is First of 10 in 2009 Package

CORPUS CHRISTI – The historic Houston Astros vs. Corpus Christi Hooks April 2 exhibition game at Whataburger Field, presented by ValueBank Texas, is the first of 10 Ryan Sanders Baseball games to be televised on FOX Sports Southwest and FOX Sports Houston, executive vice president J.J. Gottsch announced Tuesday.

In all, 10 contests involving the Hooks and sister club Round Rock Express will be aired this season.

“FOX recognizes how big this event is to fans throughout the region,” Gottsch said. “What a great way to kick off our third season of Astros Minor League Game of the Week programming.

“Though the game is sold out, fans throughout the southwest can see it on FOX Sports Southwest and FOX Sports Houston. Corpus Christi was an Astros town for over 40 years before it was a Hooks town. Understandably, the whole town is buzzing.”

“We’re excited to extend our agreement with Ryan Sanders Baseball and add more minor league games to our schedule,” FOX Sports Southwest senior vice president and general manager Jon Heidtke said. “This will give fans an opportunity to follow the stars of tomorrow today and get acquainted with future major league players who will soon be on big league rosters.”

CITGO returns as title sponsor for the 2009 Astros Minor League Game of the Week. Other sponsorship opportunities are available by calling or e-mailing Gottsch at 361-877-8326 or jjgottsch@cchooks.com

Veteran broadcaster and former Houston Astros manager Larry Dierker and former major league pitcher Kelly Wunsch will partner with Round Rock broadcaster Mike Capps and Corpus Christi broadcaster Matt Hicks to provide commentary for the telecasts. Skip Baldwin returns with his “man around the ballpark” perspectives.

"This is an ideal opportunity for Astros fans to see a glimpse of future Astros players,” Houston assistant general manager Ricky Bennett added. “We hope this exhibition game and our partnership with Ryan Sanders Baseball will help reach thousands of baseball fans across the state of Texas. It's a great way to start a new season."

FOX Sports Southwest and FOX Sports Houston combined reach over 10 million cable and satellite TV homes in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and parts of New Mexico.
