Anyone remember back in 1999 when the old AT&T purchased the TCI and MediaOne cable companies to form AT&T Broadband? And how they subsequently ran the operation in to the ground? I am not sure that this would be a good thing, in spite of the fact that this is not the same AT&T that did that deal 8 years ago.

And in turn it also seemed to run AT&T into the ground, allowing SBC to buy them (but taking the AT&T name instead of keeping SBC) at a seemingly cheap price.

HUH? Come visit Michigan

Michigan is home to the archaic american auto industry. That industry I believe is in a world by itself plagued by imcompetence. For many years american auto companies refused to put out a quality product. Overpriced cars that brake down and were cheaply made. In the meanwhile Toyota and other manufacturers offered a product that you didnt have to fear if it was made on a Friday afternoon.

why are we even talking about this? it has been said over and over, the FCC will not alowe 2 companies bidding on the same thing to merger. Both E* and ATT are bidding on the 700mghz spectrum, there fore no one will be merging. Come back in say a yr (after dish has done nothing, ran its own company into the ground, has 3 sats up in the sky and no programing on them, and then trys to says its coming) and we will see how the companies are feeling then.

Does anyone doubt we are in a recession now? I told you so two months ago. I hope you sold your stocks then.

You obviously don't know what the term recession means in regards to the economy. It's not about the stock market tanking. A recession means the economy has stopped growing and has started to shrink. The economy is still GROWING, not receding. It's growth rate has slowed, that's ALL. We are NOT in a recession. The stock market has been moving lower because investors fear a recession might be coming. It HAS NOT arrived as of yet. Most of the stock market's decline is panic manifesting itself. People are scared. The worst time to sell stock is when the market is heading down. A lot of people are doing stupid things right now. They will be sorry they did what they did.

I heard on television earlier tonight the same thing, that the worst time to sell is when the stock market is heading down. They said that it is like going down on a knife that is dropping or something like that, cannot remember the exact comment that was made.

Going back to the original thread, a friend of mind was approached by ATT (formerly Bellsouth in our area) to bundle his services. He was told he had to switch from Dish to Directv to do this. I thought ATT had been partnered with Dish for a while. Agreed, Bellsouth was in bed with Directv, but the ATT acquired BS over a year ago, and I read on these forms that ATT was going with only one provider. Did they pick Directv?

The saying is "it's like trying to catch a falling knife". The saying is meant to warn that you mean to do something good, but when you do it without thinking you're more likely to hurt yourself further than if you just let it hit the floor, wash it off and continue on.

I'd say that's good advice, and DISH's stock hopefully agrees.

Its low because of the split into two different companies. They split the $46.00 number when it was one company into two companies at $23.00 each. Both companies are now showing what they are worth split up.
