Indycar wins the award for tone deafness in 2026 with One Nation, One Race t-shirt that was pulled. I needed to double source this because it seemed too crazy. It's weird because the shirt makes no sense. One Nation, One Race. If it were one nation, one race, it'd be the Indy 500. That is the race of America, with only Daytona being anywhere near standing in racecar lore. Not the hastily put together Freedom 250 where they aren't selling tickets because there is likely no chance in heck to get it organized to do so and the race might not even count in the standings after Sting Ray Robb crashes into the Smithsonian.

Meanwhile, the racial connotations are quite in your face. So obvious, that I triple checked the claim, but it seems that most of the other links just report the same article in the second link. It is bizarre and incompetent, much like Indycar's telemetry problems this season.

I watched the replay video of the Indianapolis Grand Prix and it was a crash fest. Of course, I see the first car crash and my old company's branding front and center. Great look. Later on, another crash featured the remaining car with that team, so it wasn't looking good for "my" sponsorship…😉

While I haven't been watching too many Formula E races, that might change with the 4th generation of EV race cars. These feature AWD with 850 kW of power output and 750 kW of braking power available. The cars look less edgy and smoother, but keep the bi-wing front end so they still are different from other ICE-powered Formulas. I like it!

Still, they look less like open-wheeled race cars and are getting close to a Can-Am look with the side pods being so "square" and not tapered.

A Great mix of Top 12 drivers. Seven or eight nations represented. Weather warmer and drier today. Rosenquist looks destined for pole. Veekay has a shot at first two rows. This will be the hottest laps Veekay has turned.

Sting Ray Robb had a worse qualification than Abel had last year and he din't make the field. Dead last while teammate was fifth.

Andretti was slowish. Two Foyt cars, Conor Daly, a pair of Penskes. Let's get going!

....

Waiting is not easy at the track!

We watched the Fox recaps of Indianapolis 500 qualifying on YouTube. Exciting stuff, I was fascinated by teams having totally opposite strategies on Hybrid energy deployment. Some kept their battery fully charged, then used it on the last corner and run, while others used it each lap, regenerating going into the corners to be able to deploy more energy overall during their four lap timed runs.

The 2026 Formula One Spanish Grand Prix won't be at the regular venue, but a new track in Madrid. Carlos Sainz has a go at it in a Dark Horse Mustang. This looks like a track that should produce some great racing.

If you had a lap at 232+, the crowd popped. Veekay opened with a 232+.lap and then the handling fell apart. I didn't get it. They were fast enough to coast to fast Six then go for it, but he looks to have a solid car, so that is good.

Rosenquist had four laps over 232, only driver but the Fast six results weren't as kind. Palou somehow went from rear of top 12 to pole without speeding up too much. The track was slick!

No accidents and only a rear tire nudge by Sato the entire day. Collet and Harvey were penalyzed in post qual tech inspection and will move Robb to the inside of the 11th row.

While this sometimes works, it often doesn't account for cautions or lapped traffic that block a necessary overtake.

In a race situation, that would be a different scenario for using the Hybrid. The Qualifying runs, however, are pretty much devoid of other cars (except the next qualifier but they're a half-lap out of the way) so they are free to use the battery energy for the extra power as they determine is best for their car and speed run.

If only you could win points for qualifying...

The first time you pit in a race, you must work your way back.

The funny highlight of the day was Castroneves, four-time winner of the Indy 500 and open-wheel legend, got a speeding in the pit violation while leaving the pits during the morning practice. He had to do a drive through that lap, and then they were going to cancel the run all together, but then had him do one flying lap.

Rossi has a terrible smack into the turn two safer barrier on Monday practice. O'Ward and Grosjean spun to avoid and made contact, with Rossi and the wall, respectively. Rossi appeared uneasy getting into the emergency vehicle. O'Ward and Grosjean were better off than their vehicles.

ECR updated folks last night.
article said:
Rossi "underwent successful outpatient procedures this evening to repair minor injuries to a finger on his left hand and his right ankle," according to the statement released by ECR.
Rossi qualified second for the 500. Hopefully he is able to race. I believe he had surgery on his thumb a year or two ago. Fingers and ankles are bad things to have hurting for a 500 mile race in an Indycar.

Time to grab your pasta, make some cream and tomato based sauces... it is Carb Day! :p

Practice in going on for a few more minutes. Check out what this newb did. ;)

Penskes near the top. Most of the cars, pacing at 224. Rossi is down at 222, driving a fixed car. Last season Veekay (and ABel) would have killed for Coyne's cars having the pace they have this year. Veekay is mid-pack today. I'd say half the cars in the field can win. Indy is about perseverance and luck in every sense of a car race. Veekay winning would be awesome because he is Veekay. Castroneves winning would cause Indianapolis to register on the Richter Scale. Sato, Newgarden look for third Indy 500 wins. Daly and Ferucci are the local favs and would pop quite a bit. I think Castroneves might pop slightly higher than them. Legge wins if she finishes. Despite her racing pedigree, she doesn't get the best of vehicles to drive. I have no idea why she is trying the double... other than it might be what got the money for the drives.

Weather in Indy is up in the air. It will almost certainly rain on Sunday. When... is to be determined. After 2 PM is the set time for percentages going up, but if it is anything like last weekend, percentages are relative, and that was generally the forecast for Saturday which rained out. This is the reason I have problems buying tickets to the 500.

Regardless the weather, it is the Greatest Spectacle on Earth. Nary a single crash need happen to make the awesomeness of the 800 left low banked turns spike the meter.
