Background dark colors pumping!!!

Does anyone see this at all? In dark scenes, the backgound pumps. This seems like a digital compression artifact. Anyone else notice this? Is it maybe a defective unit?

compression, see it on ESPN-HD all the time.

It's normal, especially when your contrast is high.

I see it on 'the tudors'. I though it was the auto iris on my rptv.

Seen it on hd but more in sd channels for years.

I too thought it was the auto iris on my Sony VPL VW100 until I got the new RS1 from JVC and still does it. I figured it was the compression. Maybe FIOS will be the way to go in the future.

It's been there for a long time.

Ah for the good ol' days, when HDNET was full-res and getting 16+ mbs.

I noticed this on my HD locals through Dish. I checked the same program on my OTA HD receiver and it wasn't there. I believe it is caused by compression.
