Bad News For Dish

I cannot tell if the above post is sarcasm or not??? (which is scary........) If there was an Onion Satellite Report, the words above this would be it. Who knew Charlie posts from Nevada? Denial is not just a river in Egypt....

Edited to Add: Hated paying for Voom??? Um, I am still paying the same rate as when I had Voom, so now we are paying the very same amount for the service sans Voom. I guess you would rather just pay for something you now no longer get?......I see the logic in that......not

I signed my folks up and they have 2 HD dvrs + 1 extra HD receiver and all the programming they want for under $60/mo. You just can't beat that anywhere in the industry.

Yeh for $60 they can get Turbo Gold plus 2 HD DVRs and 1 HD receiver. For $60 E* allows me one HD DVR and I get SilverHD and not Gold HD. No HD only. As always, new subs rule, current subs drool.

No, I'm serious. No cyber-world bias. Just my real world opinions. BTW, I'm in California.

I paid $20 extra for HD when there was VOOM. Now I only pay $10 extra for HD without VOOM. Forget logic, just do the arithmetic.

Way more sensible then trying to see 5 orbital slots with one dish, is the approach Echostar is taking with the eastern/western split.

BTW, DirecTV is implementing new installs using only 3 slots, 99/101/103 unless you need international programming, so their arc is even less than Dish's Easter and Wester arc's.

Actually, they are receiving TurboHD Silver.

Is there a new dish from DirecTV I don't know about? lol

I wonder how bad things would have looked if Dish and Echostar will still the same company, EchoStar Reports Third Quarter 2008 Financial Results - MarketWatch

"EchoStar reported net loss of $308 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2008, compared with net loss of $7 million during the corresponding period in 2007. The $301 million increase in net loss primarily related to unrealized losses and impairments on marketable and non-marketable securities. Basic loss per share was $3.43 for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2008, compared with a basic loss per share of $0.07 during the corresponding period in 2007. "

I think what it all boils down to is the way they are getting the subscribers, which is through the retailers. They have screwed the retailers over way too many times and this is what happens. On top of that they are canning a lot of retailers now which cannot be helping. Some may even think that they just made up an excuse as to why to can a lot of them but they did do wrong. Some of these new acquisitions that they have been getting all along could have been those that were already subscribers before and by canning these retailers those additions will not be seen anymore.

I can see 2 things coming out of the poor results from the past 2 quarters.....

1) A big increase in next years rates
2) A possible "Oh sorry, due to hard economic times we will have to delay our launch of any additional channels or satellites until further notice"

I know direct has a package that is cheaper to include the channels I want... and I'll get the hd channels that I want.

Chuck may run out of luck...

Gosh I just looked... for zero installation costs I get hd dvr and more channels for $40 a month for the first three, then $50 afterwards... with no hidden costs... vs the $70 I'm paying now... good thing I'm bad at math.

Thanks for the Public Service message, Charlie.

Whups, you'd better check again...

3) An exceptionally large subscriber loss after Feb 2009 price increase for less service and more excuses.

Just think, you will be considered an “Upscale Customer” and that my friend is “Priceless”

Thats false. DirecTv does not have any package regularly priced under $52/mo. except for the Family package. $10 more for HD.
