I have learned a lot here on the forums, but I haven't seen this topic....

I have DirectV HDDVR with hdmi. I have Samsung 1080p HD tv with hdmi. I have Onyko receiver with hdmi.

What is the best way to hook up? Currently Directv to hdtv for pic & directv to Onyko for sound. Controlled by Directv remote.

Is it better to control/switch all with the Onyko receiver & remote? if so, what are the pros & cons?

What about optical plug? is it better than hdmi? My DVD player (Oppo) has hdmi; optical, etc.

What is the optimum wiring plan without having to have 47 remotes....?

Thanks!

Best picture - HDMI to TV
Best soiund - optical to receiver

You may be able to program your D* remote to run everything, and slave the volume switch to the stereo receiver. The codes for the Onkyo are 30135, 30380, 30842, 31298, 31320, 31531, 31805

Either way will do the job and do it nicely,
I do it the way you have it now, mainly because I don't like having to have the stereo rec. on whenever I want to watch TV, I turn it on for Movies and Games mostly, don't need it for watching the other stuff.

jmo, whichever way you perfer is good :up
