Better to purchase Hopper/Joey or get from Dish?

If you buy the equipment outright does Dish still charge for it's use and if so how much?
Not about which programing ... just about the equipment.

The monthly fees for receivers are the same if you own or lease the equipment. The only benefit to own equipment is to avoid a commitment.

If you own a Joey you can call Dish and activate and deactivate it, so you only pay for actual days of use.

Good for Joeys not regularly used, as in for guests.
