While watching TBS the other day, I saw a commercial for a show that interested me. When I rewound the DVR to see it again, it was no where to be found—there was another commercial in its place. Anyone else ever experience this and know the reason behind it?

Someone in a previous post said that the Hopper stores Dish download commercials. The could be why the replay didn't have the recording.

Yep. Dish inserts commercials from the DVR, and it might not show you the same commercial on rewind, or a Dish-inserted commercial at all.

Directv does that too. You can usually tell as they are in SD and the picture looks funny.

A great way to kill the campaign commercials is skip back 20 seconds then skipped forward 30.
