Can you upgrade from two 301's to a 522 or 625?

Hey,

My brother has been a dish subscriber for about 1 1/2 years. He has 2 301's and would like to upgrade to a two-tuner DVR. Is there anyway to upgrade to a 522 or 625 just with a lease and not having to buy the receiver? He does not care about HD, he just wants to be able to have one DVR instead of 2 independant receivers.

Thanks much for your comments and suggestions.

Call 1-800-333-dish and ask if he is eligible for an upgrade.

He could most likely lease a 522 for $149.00. They would also give him , I think , $25.00 for each 301 receiver he ships back to Dish. With the 522 , it would replace the need for two seperate receivers. Be sure he can plug it into a phone line or they will charge him $5.00 a month. He will also become a lease customer now, so a $5.00 lease fee will be included in your base package. For example ; AEP with locals will be 86.99 with the lease fee included. If no locals, you would pay $81.99 + lease fee of $5.00 =$86.99. So if you get locals the lease fee is included .

* OF course this is all if your brother isn't already a lease customer. Then the leasing of a 522 would be if your brother has done a 1 year lease and is eligible for an upgrade. Call Dish and ask.

You could sell the 301 and get more than that out of it. You could probably get about $40-50 out of a 301 so that is a total of $75-100 for both 301's and that would only be a difference of around $50 that you would have to pay. The good thing about getting this type of deal is that you would save $60 a year in additional outlet fees (but be charged that much in DVR fees) plus you would get DVR functionality in two rooms. If something goes wrong with the receiver they would have to replace it. The bad news is that if you were to shut off your system you would have to return that receiver to them whereas you would not have to with your 301 receivers. For what you save on your additional outlet fees over 2-4 years it would make up for that cost though.
