I told him , I don't watch TV anymore, and he said okay and said hold for about 2 minutes. He came back and explained the shipping procedures for returning my equipment. He thanked me and hung up.
When you told them you had given up on watching TV, there really wasn't any point in trying to keep you as TV is all they have to offer.

Maybe DISH will do to the OP what DirecTV did to me 10 years ago - keep on billing after the account is closed, despite a couple of years worth of monthly assurances that the "billing problem" had been fixed. Took a letter from the Commonwealth's Attorney to get them to *finally* stop billing the account and fix my credit report.

That's the Readers Digest version of why I won't be going back to DirecTV.

To Zero327, if it upsets you so when people post about canceling, perhaps you might consider just skipping that thread.

It was the "and Dish didn't care" that drew my attention. I just wish more were posting threads about cancelling... Much less whining...

coming from a E* employee, I would have expected that half ass answer

I'm an E* employee? You should really send out a memo so I know that I'm these things. No one ever tells me anymore... Don't make assumptions. It makes an ass out of you and umption.

Actually, I left Dish about a year ago to try out the offering from my local phone company - Dish tried very hard to keep me. When I called in January to see what they had to offer Dish bent over backwards to get me signed up. I guess some of us are still considered worth keeping. I'm sorry Dish didn't include you in that group.

I can bet you didn't talk to Dish with that rude attitude while they begged you to return. You are right, maybe you are worth keeping to Dish and he isn't. After all, with all your PPV events and porn, I'd probably want take your money too.

Seriously, you are being a rude ass here. He isn't worth them keeping? Come off the attitude. He said he has been with them a number of years.

I've heard many alcoholics, smokers, and drug addicts say they are done with their vice. That doesn't make it so. Giving up on TV is easier said than done. That is no reason not to try to retain this guy. I'll bet the farm that they start calling him after a couple weeks to try to get him back. Wouldn't it be easier to keep him in the first place? I'd say so.

Yes, I was being rude - thank you for noticing! I was returning the rudeness of the original poster when he called me (and others) a Dish fanboy, etc. The guy comes in and complains that he called Dish and they did exactly what he asked them to do. When others pointed out that is what happened he whined even more and started calling people names. At this point I'm reasonably certain that he would have started a different thread if they had tried to talk him out of it - he would have complained that they didn't do what he asked without trying to talk him out of it.

And your asinine reference to what you think I may be viewing shows who the real ass is in this conversation. Perhaps you sit around in a circle jerk (maybe with the OP here) watching porn but I don't. And yes, that was a cheap shot just like the cheap shot you took at me you self righteous douche bag.

Man, some of the responses on this board are just rude.

To Zero327, if it upsets you so when people post about canceling, perhaps you might consider just skipping that thread.

To Pakbackr, if you don't care, then why did you bother to read the post in the first place and respond.

The hostility I have been seeing in posts on this board is getting pretty ridiculous. And if you guys don't agree, then that's fine, I'm just stating an opinion here. I wish we could tone down the smart ass comments that seem to be getting more prevalent these days.

Wow..I am just looking at all the responses over the last day. I read the post because I thought there might be something of value that I might need to know for the future...but there wasn't. It was a waste of my time reading someone's whining rant and bashing of Dish. The Internet allows anyone an opportunity to climb up on a soap box and shout out anything they want, and not all of it is worthy of such opportunity. Judging from many of the comments on my original post, I would say there are a lot of other readers who agree.

You have to take into consideration that maybe there is someone else that would find value with the post.

I did not find the op to be whining as others have mentioned. He said he was surprised they did not try to keep him. Being surprised is not complaining. He said he was geared up for the attempt to keep him, it never happened, so he was surprised. That's it, that was the whole point.
I don't post much here, but I do read a lot and sometimes you guys make a big deal out of nothing.
Ok so some of you are tired of threads that are similar, so move along. Why is that so difficult? Is it a post count thing? I personally like to read about these experiences. I like to read why others are leaving and what the CSR response was. I don't mind these threads and I usually don't post, so I would imagine that it would be easier for someone who doesn't want to read the post to not post.
This is just my opinion, no offense to anyone intended.

It's funny I am reading all these posts and I remember when I cancelled Dish it was about two and a half years ago. I went back to my cable company to save some money it didn't work out so I begged Dish to take me back they said no. I used my home number when I first signed up and one night some Hindu called me up and offered me Dish network and I told him I have to wait 18 months he said no all you have to do is use someone else's name and a different phone number like a cell phone and thats what I did. Now my account is under my wife's name with my cell phone number. I am about to want to upgrade to Dish HD and if they give me a bunch of sh*t my new account will be under my name with her cell phone number!!!
