Some programmers are expecting the adoption curve of 3DTV to mimic that of high-definition. Discovery founder and chairman John Hendricks predicted that about 5 million households are "early adopters" that will purchase a 3DTV set within the next 24 to 36 months, with another approximately 20 million affluent households that will subsequently adopt the technology.

I expect it will mimic 7.1 surround sound or DBox implementation to date.

I think that they are mistaken. The economy is not going to support a new adoption of another tv system. Not when over 15 million people are out of a job. This is a gimmick and 3-D movies have been around since the 1950's . It comes back ever few years and goes away. I don't see wide spread adoption of 3-D unless, ALL tvs have it included along with the HD option. A standard 3-D feature on all Future Hd sets doesn't necessarily mean that the owners will be watching 3-d though. Just look how many people today have high def tvs and are watching basic coax cable , and say wow Hd tv!
