Only thing I saw at TiVo that caught my eye was they had Netflix and Amazon apps offered now. Is this news?

I've been looking to shoot 360 degree video for a long time and finally a company will be bringing a camera system to market. The camera is actually three sensors spaced 120 degrees with. 150 degree vertical capture. It uses an iPad app to pan around a super 360 panorama mp4 video clip to display on a standard HD 16x9 screen. You can aim the scene straight up and see a sky view hemisphere. Aim straight down and see the camera dead center. Basically this camera captures the entire inside of a sphere. The price will be $499 and be first offered for sale in the US via their own web site.

They have had Netflix and Amazon for a long time. Now if it was Amazon streaming it would be something new. If you buy a show on Amazon, you can download the episodes to your TiVo and watch as a DVR event with full trick play.

Interesting that they can't stream Amazon. I have 5 TVs, a Blu player, and a PS3 and a PS4 that have been able to do that for a long time. Wonder what the holdup is.

Any chance of discussing the naming of EHDs for Hoppers?

A bug in their ear, and a sounding out if they regard it as "worthy."

Nope no plans. They said put a pierce of masking tape on the drive and label it with a sharpie. :)

Then they don't understand how their own system works. Whichever one connects first, is EHD1. So you don't know which is which until you open and examine contents, when you connect two.

Do they understand that?

Hahaha. I don't see why Dish would care about it. A very small percentage of customers have EHD and a small percentage of those people have more than one.

This is the reason I was told. They only have limited resources so they program for what they think the most people will use.

Yet, these are likely to be their higher-spending customers.

I still think it's unfinished business on their part, but I've pushed that rock uphill too many times already. Time to find a new windmill to tilt at.

I was told a number at CES but I can't remember what it was exactly, but it was something like 98% of people with Hoppers have never plugged in an external hard drive into their Hopper. Its not a well advertised feature, plus for most normal customers they never fill 2 TB. (Yes I know we are not normal customers.) :D

That sounds about right to me. Out of that 2% that have an EHD hooked up how many do you think have more than 1? Maybe 5% of that small portion or customers. I know if I were Dish I wouldn't be wasting my time and money on it.

Well, it is what it is.

Or rather, it isn't what it isn't.

<SIGH>
