Since my pre-amp/amp install all my OTA signals are above 95 except CH2 WBBM which sits at zero. Before I go back into the attic is this channel being broadcast from a different building from a diferent direction that my current setup can't see at all? Seems strange to get 95+ across the spectrum except this puppy.

Thanks.

Search feature finally found the correct answer here at Sat Guys. I guess they are still using VHF & have applied for a UHF frequency for 2009. I guess I can diplex back the VHF antenna I simply unplugged during my last upgrade & hope this doesn't take away anything from the other channels.

WBBM is on channel 12 with 8 kw of power broadcasting from the Sears (Willis Tower)
there are no plans to change channels or increase tx power

WLS-TV (ABC) right now is on Channel 7 broadcasting 4.75 kW from Sears (Willis Tower)
they have applied to change channel to channel 44..

Ch 12 isn't showing up on the AM-21 search feature. I'm guessing they are still VHF because I received the 2-1's before I unplugged the VHF antenna.

Ch 12 for WBBM-DT won't show up, the AM21 doesn't show the actual RF channels numbers, just the vitrual channel numbers, like 2-1.

Very confused, so your HR20 is showing WBBM-DT on channel 12-1 and not the virtual 2-1?

No, It's maped down on 2-1, but its coming from RF 12! Confused :D

:) Now how about confusng you more. I get WCIU on RF 27 (like normal, but its not mapped to 26-1, instead its mapped to 48-1. ) Resetting the HR20-700, and rescanning for locals does not fix this issue as its a D* issue in their mappings.

That's what I expected for WBBM-DT since jtwex was making it sound like he was expecting to see channel 12 show on the AM21 and then you said " I'm getting WBBMHD here on 12 in Bourbonnais." making it sound like the D* boxes were showing the RF and not virtual channel number.

I guess I worded it poorly; I picked up 2-1 via the VHF antenna & it is the only digital channel in Chicago that needed VHF. It sounds like some of you are saying it's available via UHF off the Sears building. Since I'm receiving everything else off "Willy's" tower via UHF & 2-1 miraculously tunes in when I diplex the VHF back in I'm guessing it is still on VHF. I never expected to see 12-1 or 16-1.....

or the WBBM UHF window is slightly off my alignment of the UHF antenna but it's not worth messing up every other OTA channel for one channel.

The stupid virtual mapping confuses everyone! It's only going to get worse. Like for instance I know of an area that had a channel 6, but they moved to digital 21 or something close. But of course they are mapped as 6-x and still called channel 6. There's a new TV station applying for the channel 6 license since it is vacant. What do they call themselves now? Channel 6? They will of course be mapped as 6-x since they are on 6 and started as 6. Let the confusion begin....

According to the FCC website WBBM is transmitting on RF 12. They have not filed for a UHF license.

Here's the transition report for them:

I dont see how the digital transition saved any bandwidth if stations are on vhf and uhf

I would think they all should have been put on analog 48-68 or something like that

They are still all over the place

I am confused

WBBM is on VHF High, (vhf is 2-14) WBBM has never been on UHF.
WLS, Is seeking to move back to UHF, from VHF 7, so WLS is going from 52 to 7 and now 44 if things go right. But apparently there is some red tape that could be preventing wls from going to 44, stay tuned!!!! :)

They did free up the top end of the UHF band. They should have killed the entire VHF band as VHF is horrible for DTV period.
