I have a Tivo Series 2 with a lifetime subscription. It has never given me any problems. It receives input from a D* RCA DRD 435RH receiver. I use the 15-pin connector on the DVR to have the Tivo change channels on the DVR. However I am having problems with the DVR. It will lose programming, or sometimes will not go beyond channel 68. The problem can always be corrected by re-booting, which is NOT an acceptable solution. After several calls to D* they finally sent out a technician. (I have the D* equipment protection plan, as I have 4 D* receivers, including a HD one.) The only thing he found was that the DVR was set for the wrong shape dish. He offered to replace the DVR but the only ones he had on the truck could only change channels from the Tivo via IR. He checked with his supervisor who said he had none that could use a data cable to change channels.

Any one know what DVRs are available that will accept a data cable for changing channel? I am sure they will give me a refurbished one not a new one.

There is not a D* DVR that has a port for channel changing from a S2 TiVo. If D* can't provide a replacement for the DRD435 look on eBay for another RCA. Another option would be to sell the S2 TiVo and get a D* DVR. The HR10-250 TiVo is still available.

Chuck you have me confused. From you post I take it you have a stand alone Tivo that is connected to your RCA D* receiver via serial control. After that I'm confused.

You say the DVR loses programming. By that do you mean the Tivo loses its guide data or loses programs you have recorded or do you mean the RCA receiver stops displaying directv programming?

You also say the DVR wont change past channel 68 again do you mean the Tivo wont change the channel or do you mean the RCA wont. And that rebooting the DVR fixes it again do you mean the Tivo or the RCA.

The reason I ask is because a D* tech wouldnt come out and look at your Tivo DVR and offer to replace it with one on his truck because they dont carry Stand Alone Tivos.

My guess is you are having issues with the rca receiver. And they offered to replace it with a new D* receiver that does not have serial control.

You could always get a used RCA like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/RCA-435-DIRECTV...ryZ61391QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

and see if D* will activate it for you and hook it up to your tivo.
