CHANNEL CHANGING D*vs E*

EDIT: Or maybe E* has a longer buffer delay?

And/or perhaps D*s buffer is smaller, so it fills up faster, or perhaps the buffer strategy is inefficient on E*s (basically what you said above), or the RAM used for D*s buffer is clocked faster than E*s, or, perhaps E*s buffer uses some form of error correction (ECC) slowing it down, and/or a combination of the above, and the bitrates being higher on E*.

More likely Dish is compressing more than DIRECTV. The GOPs are bigger on Dish, i.e. they are sending out I frames less frequently. Note this does not mean that Dish has worse PQ because of more compression, it just means they are trying to use the bandwidth more effectively.

D* seems to change channels alot quicker compared to my508 and 311. I have a 622 on my Dish account too and it is by far the fastest Dish reciever I have ever seen it is almost as quick as my D* reciever.
