Channel Surf Reboot Bug

To try and get a better handle on this one. I thought it would be good to move it to its own thread. This seems to be the biggest issue with 2.82. What I think would be good if we can try and find some commonality here for the people that are having it. If you are running into it, it would be great to add an entry with your experiences. If you could include the following and anything else you feel necessary

1) What is your boot version. LADD??? LABD??
2) How long have you had your 811?
3) Any major stability issues since you had your 811?
4) Are you using the UHF remote that shipped with the 811 or a universal?
5) Are you using the channel locking feature
6) Do you have favorites configured?
7) Are you using OTA? Are you having any other OTA related stability issues?
8) WHat are you doing when the problerm occurs? (Steps to reproduce it)
9) How often is this occuring. (every time you surf? once a day?)
10) Have you had your 811 replaced before?

Well There is a few that might help narrow things down. Also if you are not having this issue, post your boot version and if you coudl answer the questions above too that pertain it will be helpful too.

I will start

Need to get that when I get home.

2) How long have you had your 811?
December of last year.

3) Any major stability issues since you had your 811?
Not recently. Did have some when first purchased

4) Are you using the UHF remote that shipped with the 811 or a universal?
Universal remote Pronto 3000. I did try and reproduce this with the UHF, but was not successful.

5) Are you using the channel locking feature
No

6) Do you have favorites configured?
Yes.. I have 3 sets with about 20 in each.

7) Are you using OTA? Are you having any other OTA related stability issues?
Yes. Have 12 OTA channels. No stabillity issues with OTA. My OTA is rock solid.

8) WHat are you doing when the problerm occurs? (Steps to reproduce it)
Cannot reproduce it.

9) How often is this occuring. (every time you surf? once a day?)
I have not seen it.

10) Have you had your 811 replaced before?
No

< Rare BSOD. Biggest problem was whenever I tuned to my local PBS-HD channel it would get the 49% signal strength and it would take 5 min or more to lock >

< Yes. Occassional framerate slowdown / frame drop. >

8) WHat are you doing when the problerm occurs? (Steps to reproduce it)

< More often than not I just have to go to my PBS-HD channel. It doesn't matter if it is from a sat channel or an OTA channel. It will usually show 49% on the signal strength meter. Then after the window clears if the signal strength goes to 0% then it willl lock and I have to reboot the receiver. If it goes to 80%+ then the channel is ok. But, more often than not it locksup the receiver. >

< It happens everyday, almost, everytime I go to the PBS channel. I have gotten to a point where I avoid going to the PBS-HD channel. >

10) Have you had your 811 replaced before?

< Yes, the original receiver had such old firmware in it that it would not take the download forom the sat when it was installed. Dish sent me a replacement. >

*Used to get random often Sat Aquisitions <cleared up with P269>
*Used to get often slo-mo reduced frame rates <cleared up after I added UPS to 811 and Power inserter>
*Used to get frequent BSOD <Not since P282>
*Lost some distant OTA digitals to 49% lock with P280 <Got back in P282>
*Used to get random self reboots <haven't seen since P269>
*Used to loose Audio/Video sync <Fixed in P280>
*Randomly resets remote address to 1 <This is the neighbor screwing wth me, Scott posted a hidden address range, don't think I'll have this issue anymore.>
*Still see pixelation breakups in HDTV delivered thru Dish.

4) Are you using the UHF remote that shipped with the 811 or a universal?
*Mostly the UHF Pro 8.0 that shipped with the 811, but I have used a Blue button 1.5 IR, IR blaster from PVR and TV, and TV IR remote. Getting Pronto TSU7000 in a couple weeks.

5) Are you using the channel locking feature
*Not anymore, I have found the more personalization features you use the more likely you are to have an issue downloading firmware or your more likely to see bugs....I find the 811 most likely has a memory leak and the more memory you allocate to personal settings the more likely you re to see issues. (OPINION)

6) Do you have favorites configured?
*Yes.. I have 2 sets 1 with about 50 and one with 6.

7) Are you using OTA? Are you having any other OTA related stability issues?
*Yes, I have 13 Digital OTA channels mapped. No subchannel information is displayed in EPG but the way the system gets it's info this is not a possibility at this time. I have had no OTA issues in this firmware revision...Yet.

8) What are you doing when the problerm occurs? (Steps to reproduce it)
*Cannot replicate it.

9) How often is this occuring. (every time you surf? once a day?)
*I have not seen it.

10) Have you had your 811 replaced before?
*No, I am on my first 811.

BSOD on all but one if left on an OTA channel at top or bottom of hour (guide update times?)

Yes, No problems with OTA reception 95% or higher signal on all. Except the one with
282 just had blackout & auto reboot when checking signal strength on OTA.

I don't usually do that, so this was first time.

Yes, only for digital. No stability issues. Most at 75-85%

Usually occurs when surfing up (from ESPN HD to local PBS HD). Not consistently reproducible. Tried the "factory reset" and reprogramming all locals and favorites with minimal change.
9) How often is this occuring. (every time you surf? once a day?)
First couple of days with 2.82, occuring multiple times and could reproduce easily (every time, had to reboot or let 811 reboot on its own). Now, usually does not recur once rebooted until turn off 811 and turn back on (usually a few hours later or the next day).
10) Have you had your 811 replaced before?

Occasional BSOD. Also a rare and temporary disappearing color (color washes out and comes back in ~30 seconds). And lastly, no Dolby 5.1 (I have one of those receivers that doesn't detect whatever is sent out of the 811).

The remote that came with the 811.

Yes. All 4 categories.

Yes. The well known 49% problem.

Channel surf on OTA Digital Channels...press up/up/up then boom ... reboot. This problem does not occur on OTA analog stations.
On further note, the only channels I surf on have a better than 65% signal strength.

9) How often is this occuring. (every time you surf? once a day?)

Everytime I surf. Very consistent.

10) Have you had your 811 replaced before?

Yes. When I first received the unit, the DD 5.1 was not working and I called it in. They replaced it and that did not cure the problem. At this time, I did a search on the web and found this very helpful forum. I discovered that the DD 5.1 issue had to do with the type of signal that is sent out of the 811. There are two types and my receiver happens to not recognize what is sent out of the 811. There is supposedly a fix sometime in the future.

Channel surfing.
Before 282, BSOD would happend when going from OTA channels to HD channels. I had to reboot the receiver myself.

Since 282, BSOD is occuring in OTA channels that have not locked on (49% or less). The receiver now reboots itself.

Searching satellte when pressing guide on OTA (fixed)
BSOD and random reboots (fixed)

Random drops of video, dunno if it's MP or the tuner.

Channel recall between 2 OTA channels
Quick channel change between OTA channels.

Just once. I did a restore to factory defaults in menu, and it's gone.

Well from the posts so far, It does not look like there is a clear pattern. The one that I find most interesting is the person that relates the issue to a specific channel. Wonder if the bug that was created is channel specific and that is why we are not all seeing it. However, based on the other posts this does not seem to be the case.

The only common thread is the difficulty the 811 seems to have with showing all OTA channels correctly. If one were to watch only the satellite channels, one will no longer experience BSOD..

Channel surfing. Only occurs when surfing OTA. This has happened on more than one OTA channel, but always when signal meter is less than 50%.

I have about 7 OTA channels (depending on whether public TV is up. Seemed fine until the 282 upgrade.

Channel surfing from or to OTA channels. Happens on all OTA's but usually right before a big play! OTA sugnal strength

A guess a question that should be added would be. Do you have Signal Strength issues with any channels you have added to your Guide? All my channels are in the 70-80% do not fluctuate a lot.
