Most modern motherboards have serial port headers, they just don't install the connectors on the board. You just need to get the 9-pin connector with the ribbon cable that plugs into the header. They usually put the connector in a PCI bracket so you can install it on the back.

Check your BIOS, there should be an option to turn it on or off if it's there.

They still put Parallel Port headers on too. I've got a Core 2 Quad system, but I could add both Serial and Parallel if I wanted.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I can't find a header on the motherboard or anything in the BIOS. Here is a link to my motherboard if that helps any.

Ciel 2 is still at 138° West and is not moving.
Thanks... Cried on the shoulders of Dish/CenturyTel (partner) today and got pretty much no where..

I know it's gonna get better but it sux so badly here on the extreme west coast now and has, since I got the disks, I'm about done with em...

Guess I'll hang in just to see how it does once it's in place and working.. better be damn good tho!!

:up :hungry:

Why is this even here? It's a sat forum about Ciel 2.

Read the whole conversation, makes perfect sense.

And who made you moderator?

And it's a thread, not a forum. A forum is a collection of threads.

This is why I'm a jerk most of the time...even when I'm trying to be helpful, someone will whine and complain about it.

... The old computer had a built-in serial port. The new one didn't have a serial port. So I am using a USB to serial port converter. That may be my problem.

We have some burner control equipment that needs to interface with a laptop via serial. We have some laptops w/o serial ports, and use converters. First one we used was, shall we say, intermittent. Forget the brand and what we replaced it with.

That HP MB doesn't have RS-232 ports.
Take my Dell 360 or I can give you Dell Intel CPU MB.

I still have my old Dell computer. I'll try moving the BLSA back to it and see if it works any better.

I did notice more testing last night at 11:15 pm PST. The narrow signal gradually turned into a large transponder wide signal and then disappeared.
