Confrence Call for First Quarter Results

If dish was losing customers we would see some new HD..since they really haven't added anything they must be doing pretty good

Charlie says 10 year forcast is 1 percent/year for the business. So, i will go with 1400000*.01/4= 35,000 per quarter

What DISH needs to do is not to forget current customers. New customers are welcome news although they take an investment on DISH's part to get them in and that is not cheap as you seniors know.

I would really like to see them display Dish inside the blockbuster stores, I have heard some display the video service. Our blockbuster does not and it's gets good traffic, I think it would continue to the growth

Yup; that cardboard display is all mine has too. But one of the staff members told me on my last pass that they are about to get some real iron and let people try it out. They may even get a Hopper.

They sure do. I think there are 2 in a neighboring city. The one I've been to has quite some traffic, too. They do have some great deals from time to time on new Blu-rays as well as box sets. There are also some good used sales as well for $0.99 and $1.99.

Yes, there are some still out there. I am lucky to have one about a mile away if that.

It's a real plus to the blockbuster program. Today was a good example returned a movies I got in the mail with a in store exchange, watched it returned it to the store and next one will be here by wednesday. It does stink that many of the stores have closed but as I mentioned if you still have one it's a great bonus

I'd be willing to bet that they will not be there very much longer.

I say they gain about 25K subs. I only say that because several of my friends cancelled and switched to Directv and they where pretty aggressive in offering incentives to continue being a customer, where as in the past their attitude was to do nothing and tell the customer not to let the door hit them on the way out.

I don't think hopper/joey installations had any impact on new sales, as it has not been heavly advertised.

Seems you weren't exactly correct!

Looks like the Hopper had more impact on the first quarter than we thought. Finally over 14 million subs for DISH. Just imagine how the second quater will look. The third quarter will see less subs ,because they will drop AMC and other networks from that company, by the end of June. But our bills will stay as high or higher by next February price hike, regardless if we lose the channels or not.

It may not be all roses, but note despite the prediction by Claude, turnover was better, contributing to the increase in current subscribers. I'm not sure the Hopper was the only or even the primary reason but it certainly didn't hurt. At this point with no increase in price for awhile, Dish really is less expensive overall more than even before. With smaller packages for those who really need to watch the spending, those customers probably aren't going anywhere. But as I said not all roses as those customers aren't adding much to the revenue. Hopefully for Dish those who have the bigger programming packages also are staying. The obvious question is can they continue especially with less turnover.

I would be willing to bet that the Hopper had little to do with the successful quarter. They grew by over 100k subs. I doubt that more than a small fraction of those subs got the Hopper.
