Connecting DVR to Computer?

I was wondering if it was possible to connect the DVR to the home computer network so we could store movies, etc. on the computer and transfer them to the DVR or play movies directly off the computer harddrive.

I've set got the DVR connected to the router via network cable, but my computer does not register another device on the network so I don't have access to it, and likewise, I see nothing on the DVR menus that look like it is seeing the computer hard drive.

Anyone know anything about this?

Dish files are encrypted. They only play on Dish receivers or Dish authorized hard drive.

Except there may be a way to record programs in real time-- as they are playing out of the SAT dvr using TV2 out - connecting it to computer thru a TV tuner card???????? I haven't done so-- but maybe someone else can explain that process if it would work.
