Considering a new TV - any have PVR built in?

I'm thinking of replacing my 27" CRT TV with a 32" LCD set. I have a Sonicview 8000HD I plan to use with it and that has PVR capability but I wonder if any of the manufacturers offer a TV with the PVR capability built in, either via a USB port for an external HDD like the Sonicview has, or with an internal HDD. A quick Google search turns up several TVs for the Australian and UK markets with this capability but none for the US market - anyone know why?

Because the cable and dish companies have a monopoly on the DVR/PVR market here. Just my 2¢.

Darn good question. The Dish DTVPal DVR (discontinued) would act something like your Sonicview, but that's not integrated with the TV. I know of no TV/DVR combo in the USA either.

BTW - 32" isn't big enough!

Mitsubishi used to make a fewer higher end DLPs with a built-in DVR (2003-2005 timeframe). They stopped making them due to hardware problems and had limited functionality (not like a Tivo or Cable DVR.
