Contract Renewals

How can fox sports force yes to do anything ?

The Yankees are their own network.

21st Century Fox has completed its deal to take majority control of the YES Network from the New York Yankees' parent company.

Fox said Friday it finalized the agreement announced Jan. 24 and raised its ownership stake from 49 percent to 80 percent.

Yankee Global Enterprises reduced its stake in the network from 26 percent to 20 percent.

I was speaking more to the idea that by themselves, the Yankees may not be enough to keep a channel going.

The channel had been successful since 2002 when it launched. They claim to be the most watched RSN. Of course being in NY helps.

Everyone claims that their product is the bestest or mostest under some very specific conditions.

As far as YES is concerned, Forbes says that they are one of the markets that can't seem to beat out conventional network programming in their market. There are ten teams that rank better than all other prime time programming on game nights and another bunch that were in the top three. The Yanks are not among them.

You have to wonder if the rankings that YES cites might not be based on simultaneous viewers or some other criteria like NBC claiming that they're the number one watched network when measured during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies.
