For anyone who has one....Does a 4000 work like a 5000 or 6000? I was thinking of buying an SD box for the bedroom TV, and these seem to always be cheaper than the 5000/6000. It LOOKS just like a 6000. :)

euro, does the Coolsat site still have factory firmware for any of them anymore? I would check to see if they did and see if the 4000-5000 files look to be the same i.e. filesize.

I know you can't tell too much by that but I would venture to think they are the same. Tony might know, I would wait till you hear from him to drop by this thread to see. I would say they are the same. Don't qote me though.

I still have a Dead Coolsat 6000 bought last year, died after 3 months of use due to my stupid brain shorting out the coax going in for I thought the box was off on a re-connect of the coax!

But from the screenshots I saw of the 5000 they looked the same to me. Now going to 4000 I never seen an OSD of one of those guys.

I would wait for another or more thoughts here before I would try though!

OSD on the 4000 looks the same. I have a 4000 plus here. It has no blindscan but works fine for what it is. If your just looking for a simple box for the bedroom this will work fine.

The 4000 (pro?) does blind scan. The channel changing is a little slower than the 5000 as the processor is slower and it has less memory than the 6000, but the extra memory was for the EPG which isn't an issue as most FTA doesn't really use the EPG. They work really well for FTA.

I know the 4000 original software would blind scan up to 13000 regardless of LNB whereas the 5000 stops at 12200

The 4000 had a software that did change the scan to 12200. The only drawback of the 4/5/6000 receivers is when using a Universal LNB. Since most NA satellites only have a high band, the shortcut is to set up the LNB LO to 10600 (high band) and turn 22k on.

This is a issue when blind scanning because the "stock" frequency range becomes 11550-12050 (150mhz less than the "normal" 11700-12200). So you have to set the frequency range to 12200 everytime you blind scan (or leave it as Universal then it scans both bands).

They may have fixed that in some old hackerware, but I'm still using version 1.00 in both of my 5000's

Thanks, guys for all the replies/info!
I'm going to get a Coolsat 5000 at the end of the month.
:D:up (setting up an FTA system for my in-laws, and they'll be getting my old Pansat 2500a that's in the bedroom now)
