anyone have a corporate phone number? I finally got around to calling and they said thats corporate sorry we have no phone number for them.

frankly I hope the organizatrion goes defunct, christian organizations shouldnt screw people

I will happily sign on to a lawsuit, and hope complaints to the FCC bolix up the transponder sale

E should add all the christian type channels they can and offer it as part of a regular package or add on to a basic one.

that would make whatever sky angel becomes meaningless and put them out of business.......

corporate phone # AND new press release

Seems they are now using answers in Genesis to get some publicity. I plan on contacting them. Article has contact info including phone # and extension for the VP, about as high up the ladder as I have gotten (with no satisfaction I might ad)

Sky Angel Airing Series of Answers in Genesis Specials
Contact: Nancy Christopher, Vice President, Corporate Communications Sky Angel/Dominion Video Satellite Inc., 239-403-9130 Ex. 213, Nancy.christopher@skyangel.com
NAPLES, Florida, Aug. 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- Sky Angel, a Christian-owned multi-channel provider of faith-based and family-friendly TV and radio, has begun airing a series of Answers in Genesis programs on the company's owned and operated special events channel, Angel Two.
Answers in Genesis, builder of the Creation Science Museum located near Cincinnati, Ohio, is a Christ-centered ministry dedicated to upholding the authority of the Bible from the very first verse. Upcoming programs scheduled to air on Angel Two/Sky Angel Channel 9702 include "Creation Astronomy," "Origin of the Species," "The Relevance of Genesis," "Fearfully and Wonderfully Made," and "The Intelligent Design Movement: How Intelligent Is It?"
"We are excited to work with Sky Angel to air several of our most popular videos. This is just another blessing the Lord has given us to support the Church in fulfilling its commission," said Dale Mason, vice president of marketing and media for Answers in Genesis.
"Our relationship with Sky Angel helps us fulfill our mission to proclaim the absolute truth and the authority of the Bible with boldness, 'relating the relevance of a literal Genesis to the Church and the world today, while obeying God's call to deliver the message of the Gospel,' individually and collectively. We urge everyone to watch the programs and prepare to be challenged and encouraged!" added Mason. For more information about Answers in Genesis, visit www.AnswersInGenesis.org.
Sky Angel recently announced plans to offer its service in the United States using a broadband Internet protocol, commonly known as IPTV. IPTV combines traditional television with broadband Internet services and allows programs and channels to be viewed on conventional TVs, personal computers, and handheld instruments. A wider variety of channels and more programming package choices are features afforded by IPTV. In addition, IPTV provides viewers value-added services and conveniences such as the ability to set up their own equipment, to retrieve programs that have already aired, and to utilize Video on Demand.
Sky Angel currently delivers over 30 television and radio channels to customers across the United States using direct broadcast satellite and reaches consumers in homes, churches, prisons, shelters, hospitals, and nursing homes. Programming includes family movies; classic sitcoms; Christian shows for kids and teens; biblical teaching and inspirational programs; home life, health and talk shows; documentaries and educational programs; special events, conferences and concerts; Christian music videos; and more.

I contacted Charisma Magazine suggesting that it do a story on SA abandoning its satellite platform and received this reply:
We haven't written a story about this, but our media columnist wrote a blog about Sky Angel's plans to move in this direction earlier this summer. Nancy Christopher, a spokeswoman for Sky Angel, gives a long explanation of why they're making the switch. Until we can offer you more information, you can read the blog here: Sky Angel Moves to IPTV Platform | Phil Cooke and The Change Revolution.

It appears that one might be able to respond to the blog but I didn't see any other postings there so I didn't attempt to respond.

yes you can respond, see copy of my post below

You can respond, just scroll down

There are several issues that kathy and nancy are avoiding. One is that they sold LIFETIME subscriptions which were supposed to be for the LIFETIME of the SUBSCRIBER and the SATELLITE. TWO the satellite is still functioning 3 they were supposed to replace the satellite in the year 2000 and neglected to do so! 4-they issue press releases but have NOT notified subscribers 6- this change renders current subscriber equipment USELESS 7-IPTV requires HIGH SPEED internet access as well as the purchase of all new equipment, 8- INCREASED monthly cost 7- won't transfer lifetime subs to IPTV 8- IPTV partner has a very strong affiliation with PORN

a call center rep called me back asked how I heard, said yes the forums are ripping us, and theres nothing we can tell you sorry. clearly they dont want preople to know:(

I said sky angel or whatever its new name will be is a sorry example of whats supposed to be a christian organization.....

and by saying nothing looks suspicious.....

will call them tomorrow.

I say tie it all up in court forever

I contacted the channels I am interested in saying:
SkyAngel is apparently abandoning its satellite platform and going to IPTV. Dominion has a filing before the FCC to transfer its prized DBS frequencies to EchoStar. When this happens a lot of present subscribers, especially the lifelong subscribers or sponsors as Robert Johnson, Sr. called us will be left behind.
This brings me to my question, is your programming on GloryStar free to air satellite or do you plan to place it there? GloryStar appears to be the Christian satellite provider of the present and the future.

Needed

What is needed now is to play the game sky angels way. by that I mean in the MEDIA! Sky angel is using any excuse they can to get their name in the paper and plug IPTV these days.

I say we contact major news networks, magazines, and newspapers with a press release of our own. I am thinking something that would talk about TV options for Christians, Sky Angel problems as well as mentioning this forum. there strength in numbers. Christians have alternatives to secular TV, NO TV or SKY Angel. We need to gt back to the days when TV reception was FREE. glory Star makes that possible!

anyone good at writing up a release that we can ALL send out?

Sky Angel, isn't being forth coming. The fact that they lurk on these forums without posting says multitudes about them! That they are aware of the concerns of its subscribers yet do nothing to alleviate them or even answer questions shows where their heart is. Sky Angel has flown a long way from wanting to deliver the word of God via DBS to ALL people. The focus now seems to be on how much $ they can make.

Is sky angel classified as for profit or a non profit organization?

fta christian networks was here long before skyangel came around on the (bud) big beautiful dish
on c band. any old timers remember Z-MUSIC TELEVISION. I used to watch that all the time playing great praise and worship videos. (gone now) :(
looks like i'm going back to fta with the glorystar fta sysyem

I received a response from a couple of the SkyAngel channel programmers I contacted. They are presently using a C-band backhaul link, so a move to Ku-band and GloryStar would not be without significant expense. Both realized their outreach will be impacted by the move away from satellite. It seems that SkyAngel is the only group that sees the move as an improvement, funny that this could happen with its subscriber advisory group.

(with no satisfaction I might ad)

I think it is impossible to satisfy you at this point. :)

I am not sure if them saying they would give all lifetime subs lifetime IPTV (which won't happened) would satisfy you.

Phone calls won't make their business model (over satellite) profitable enough for them to survive....

It may be too late to trust a corporation that operates in the dark, but there was a time when I would have been willing to give a one-time gift to help SA stay afloat. Why was this all such a secret, and why is SA still not up front about the situation? Is EchoStar buying the license or is it a freebie . . . will we ever know the details? As a sponsor I think I should be kept in the loop!

honestly?

would I be satisfied if they gave lifetimers IPTV service? Not really as I do not have high speed internet or the $ for new equipment. However I feel that would be the offer that would be fair to the majority of the lifetime members. those who have or can get high speed would at least have the option of continuing their subs.

As for the "viewer advisory board" it is my understanding that only sky angels subs with INTERNET access are on it (no snail mail people). if so that is not a true advisory board based on its membership. If there membership is 75/25% then 25% of the board should be non internet people! Other than tht they are wasting time with their surveys! if they had only asked those without internet access if they would subscribe to IPTV the answer wuold be quite different!

This "feedback" is only the tip of the iceburg as most of the members have no idea that IPTV is on the coming horizon (due to SA lack of snail mail)

for those who get the guide mailed to them, has there been anything about IPTV in it?

Most people would not have given a gift. Taking a one-time influx was also their original error. They need ongoing income, and a one-time model does not provide it. :(

where is number 5? and you have 2 7 & 8

as for a few points.

2. yeah the satellite is still functioning...but barely
3. where is my "beat a dead horse" icon? That horse is so dead not even the buzzards want what's left...Give that one up.
4. If they issue press releases that is notifying customers
6. (since you skipped 5)...big whoop. Dish & DirecTV add channels and to get them you need to upgrade equipment.
7. (first one)...again...new equipment is a fact of nature and for better programming
8. (first one)...inflation
7. (second one)...lifetime meant lifetime of satellite programming...IPTV is NOT satellite. therefore that point is moot
8. (second one)...so is Dish. SA is affiliated with Dish that sells adult programming.

Speak for yourself Brad. We'll never know since they chose to keep the finances in secret and didn't ask for help. Actually we don't know how many people went for the $500 up front sponsorship (including hardware), many may not have been so trusting or had the cash available.

Horse isn't dead yet

The horse isn't dead yet, :)after all we still have DBS AND we still have the "special 4". Would we still have them if we just quietly accepted the letter as fact? We have the specials for one of 2 reasons (if I can count tonight) 1)sky angel realized what they were doing was wrong or 2) they are so poorly run that they can't figure out who and how to shut us all off!

Where there is breath, there is life so why give up the fight early? Sometimes we have to fight for what is right even if we won't personally benefit from it. Just because you or I can't get high speed TODAY doesn't mean that it might not be available tomorrow. If we can help someone else, another lifetimer continue getting service isn't it still worth it? There is strength in #s and sky angel needs to hear from ALL who are dissatisfied .

Look at it this way, we might be helping sky angel to stop from making a bigger mistake. We can't assume they know we are unhappy. the programmers also need to let sky angel know if they are unhappy with the proposed move. I have had responses from some programmers who say they were not aware of the proposed switch to IPTV!

As for notifying subscribers with newspaper articles I don't think so! they certainly can't hit every local paper1 Besides how many only read the paper online? Or just the local paper? how many subs are in NAPLES FLA? I think we need to see some good old snail mail and some info shows on Angel 1.

:confused:By the way I did not, have not called sky angel. I prefer a written record of all my contacts with them! I just posted the article which had the corporate # that someone was looking for.

There are those who have chosen not to post on the forums but are very much in contact with SA regarding this issue.

I am not saying you would not have given them a gift elder, maybe even a substantial one. I am saying that any ministry or business needs to build itself on some ongoing revenue stream, not a one-time one. In this case, I see no way they could truly generate a significant ongoing revenue stream.

While some will, I maintain that I am validated that most Christians will not pay for "Christian-only" programming, at least not enough to keep things going.

Would you want to be giving another "one time gift" next year as well? For the next ten years? When would it end? How could it end with SkyAngel surviving?

I would not have given them a gift, and I suspect that my "claim" on "forever lifetime" access is stronger since my father donated for my description long before SkyAngel existed. I never read the exact text, but I suspect it was not limited to (at least originally) the lifetime of the satellite, since it was just a gleam in Robert Johnson's eye at that point. The amount was more than the $299 most people got in with.

I would have been very ticked if I had stretched to buy 2 lifetime memberships for other family members when they last sold them, as I almost did. Even then, I would have let it die since I have a lot of things to be ticked about and I choose to spend my time on productive things rather than things that waste my time.

What annoys me about this conversation is that it is accomplishing nothing, though I keep getting exposed to it because I check this group sometimes to see what is going on with SkyAngel. I am going to be going to Fios as soon as they finish turning on my neighborhood (talk about annoying delays...), so I am not worried about Dish much anymore. I also just bought 2 Tivo HD units and while I don't like some things, they have a lot more flexibility. I can get almost the same programming I get/got on SkyAngel, plus I can get the occasional HD shows. TBN has all 5 of their local stations and Pax carries the Worship network on one of their digital channels and has lots of Vegitales and 3-2-1 Penguins if I wanted to watch that. (The wonders of broadcast digital technology....)

What is the point of beating SkyAngel? What is it going to accomplish? If it is making you feel good and you are a Christian, are you not erring as much as you believe SkyAngel did? You have both made your points clear, you are "made as hell and not going to take it anymore," but is that really a godly attitude?

Brad
