Could type of install be a factor with 622 video problems?

What type of 622 install and have you had video problems?

I'm bringing this over from a reply I made in another thread because it may (or may not) be relevent to why some have spradic video problems and others don't.

When I first got my 622 authorized, it worked fine except for a few of the audio drops others are experiencing. Then a few days later the installer came. Mainly because I had been having switch / signal problems with the 508 in another room and since I was going to replace the 508 with the 942 anyway, it would need another line to that location.

Anyway, to make a long story short, we decided the problem was with one outlet on the DP-34, so rather than replace it and run another line, he instead removed the switch, replaced the LNBs on the Dish 500 with DPP Twin LNB, ran the 61.5 cable into it and then just use 2 of the existing lines (one each) to the 622 and 942 both with seperators. All makes sense and should be fine.

But soon after that is when the "weird sound & color smearing, shut down / reboot" problem started happening. Up until then I had not had those problems. Could there be a relation?

So I'd like to create a poll to see if there's a correlation between the DPP / seperator connection and some of these video problems.

I may mess this poll up as I haven't done too many, so if someone wants to edit it, that's fine.

Ok, I got the poll up but am sure someone else could have done a better job. I don't have any problem with someone improving it.
Thanks,
Walt

Walt did the installer put a dpp44 in for you?

I haven't had mine installed yet but will post results here since I will be using 2 feeds to the 622 as I do not have the need for a dpp44 so I'm sure they wont install one.

I currently have 2- 34's running the show and 2 feeds to every room.

I don't know if this info will help but I use a DPP44 switch with a single line and separator. I have only had a few problems and the problems only occurred on the 622 or 211 receiver. I haven't had any problems with my other receivers. I have been chalking the problems up with the units being new and having bugs rather than the lnbs, switch, or lines. I expect the minor bugs to eventually disappear with improved software upgrades.

I'm running the 622 and the 942 off the DPP44 with one line each. The 622 is hooked up next to the 942. When I have audio problems with the 622 the 942 never has the problem. I agree with Dishpointer - this is a software issue.

The theory I'm floating here is if it's possible that some of the 622 video problems are related to whether your 622 uses 2 sat feeds or a single feed with a seperator.

Although the sampling is way too small, it has started to lean to where there may be more video problems with 622s that use a single line & seperator from a DPP LNB or switch versus 2 lines from a non-DPP switch.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know squat about this install stuff but I do know I installed and activated my 622 this past Sunday by basically replacing the 942, so it was only a matter of switching wires.

It worked fine from Sunday until Tuesday afternoon which was shortly after the installer came.

Because he was relocating my 942 to replace a 508 in another room, he would have had to run a 4th line from my DP-34 but since the DP-34 was exibiting problems at the 508, he decided to instead remove the DP-34 all together and replace the Dish-500 DP LNBs with a DPP Twin LNB. He then only had to use one feed with a seperator for the 942 and the 622.

Although none of that should be a problem, it is when I started having the weird video problems.

I voted, "2 lines from DP switch and have had few problems" but my problems have been so few I almost felt like voting for no problems. Other than one "lock up" after a recent software push (L.354?), I think any audio/video problems I've experienced were with the new MPEG4 HD LIL channels...which I rarely watch (have OTA). Walter, I think you're on to something...may also wish to look at those with HD LIL channels and/or OTA (mapping issues).

The OTA part is also an interesting factor to consider. I have watched many of these threads and all teh people with reboots etc seem to be those also using an OTA antenna. I dont have one and have never had all these issues others report with the 942. Just wondered if the poll might need to have a OTA option too ? I dont have 622 yet, but i hope to in the next couple of weeks.

Not sure which answer on the poll since I'm retarded to the connections, etc. Have had my 622 for a few weeks now and works great... 99% time. Started to have no sound on many channels, mostly the HD. Tech told me to rewind, then play. Worked. Had sound but would occassionaly have that problem off and on for the day (week ago). Already had latest download. Nother prob I'm having a 3-4 times a day, is the signal or screen goes to snow and very loud static. If I wait about 4-5 minutes, it will reboot on it's own. If I turn 622 off and then on, won't go away. Have to reboot myself, or let it do it on it's own. Anyone else have that issue? I'll call tech about it one day. Most likely when it happens during a recording and pisses me off.

The only "problem" that I can see with this poll is that it's more likely to find a single line from a DPP lnb/switch than any other type of setup. DPP is just too easy of an opportunity for most installers to not take advantage of.

I agree but if it turns out that type of install is contributing to video and or sound issues, then that's a step torward fixing the problem.

If past history is any indication, Dish doesn't have a clue about what's causing these problems. They will fiddleyfuck around and occasionally release new software in hopes it will fix more receivers than it hurts.

The trouble is, every single one of Dish's DVRs has at least temporary deteriorated with one or more software releases for many subs. It's a pain in the ass process and I for one am tired of paying Dish to let me beta test but that's the way it is if you want to sub to "E".

Therefore, they need all the help they can get in terms of reliable feedback if they're ever going to fix this 622.

I know my poll probably isn't as good as it should be and if someone can create a better and more appropiate thread / poll, it won't break my heart at all. I just want to help isolate possible conditions that may be causing some of these problems. If we can reasonably determine that this plus that causes "X" under certain conditions, that can be presented to Dish Tech and maybe speed up things.

One would think their software updates would be rigorously tested at Dish Network's Testing Laboratories (aka Dish Labs).

Why should Dish pay for testing when there are customers that will pay Dish to let them do the testing?:D

Dead 942

3 DP LNBs to DP34 to 622 ?
