Just talked to a DirecTV CSR. We've been exclusively D* since 1994, and I'm looking into upgrading to Whole-House DVR & was given an installation price of $250 (includes an HD receiver upgrade & a second DVR). Being I have no commitment, I asked to talk to retention (hoping for a better price) & was told that there was no longer a retention person to talk to & that this was the best deal possible. True?

Call back and play CSR roulette. They still have a retention department, could call it a different name now. If you threaten to cancel, they will send you some where like retention.

Call in and hit the Cancel prompt, or say Cancel, this will take you to the Retention dept.

They are definitely still there.

After talking to local cable companies to get & understand their best deal, I called DTV back & said "cancel". Lo & behold, I was put through to a "retention" rep (thanks Jimbo!). They were able to give me a much better deal... Whole-House DVR with a second DVR installation is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Thanks, Rick

Just another correct helpful post, that's all!

Well, the installation wasn't flawless, but the Whole-House DVR network is up & running. Thanks again!
