I'm not sure why people think the job of Knicks President is such a bad one. Isiah was shown more patience and given more chances than any President/GM/Coach/Dope I've ever seen. Considering how he ran the franchise, that's saying a lot.

The problem with the Knicks under Isiah Thomas was Isiah Thomas, and he's no longer a factor.

In my opinion Dolan also had way to long a leash for Glen Sather, and his stewardship of the Rangers. I was on dbsforums for years calling for the ouster of the Edmonton Genius, thinking the game had passed him by.

Well, I was wrong. Sather has built a solid team of young players and sprinkled in some good free agent signings, and he was more patient with Tom Renney than I was. I was wrong on that too, and right now I'm glad we have both Sather and Renney.

I have a feeling for better or worse both Walsh and D'Antoni will be given lots of time to right the Knicks, and get them out of the hole Isian put them in.

Will LeBron stay or go once his contract is up in 2010? This is the million dollar question that all of Cleveland is trying not to think about.

In the argument for LeBron staying in Cleveland........

LeBron was born and raised locally in Akron, Ohio. Don't forget that LeBron is a family man. His mother, girlfriend (High School sweat hearts), and two young sons are all living in Ohio and he's not likely to uproot them all for a move to another city.

LeBron also is in the process of completing an addition onto his home in a suburb of Akron. The renovation is due to be complete soon and will feature a casino, two-lane bowling alley, barber shop, aquarium, sports bar, theater and a recording studio.

The 35,000-square-foot, 11-bedroom home is built on 5.6 acres. 19 families live within 800 feet of James' new home and many wonder why James did not choose to live in a more secluded area. LeBron said that he wants to be near friends and family.

As far as money goes, under the current rules, only the Cav's could potentially offer LeBron a maximum contract of six years. Other teams could only offer a five year contract for a slightly smaller salary per year.

In regards to endorsement money, potential higher earnings in a bigger market is a bit overrated IMO. With today's world-wide media coverage, a mid-market star can still appeal nationally just as well. No matter where he goes, his fan base isn't likely to change dramatically.

Couple of things....1st and foremost, I HIGHLY DOUBT that he is going ANYWHERE. Simply because these Cavs have a home grown talent that WANTED to play in Cleveland....he does things the right way....a family man and the ownership knows he is THE MAN in whole city of Cleveland...you think the Cavs ownership wanna be the one that let one of the best players IN THE WORLD slip away? The PR hit ALONE would be mind boggling...imagine the financial hit on the organtization and even local business....? As far as the houses and his buddies...well...that is no big deal, people buy and sell homes all the time. And finally, this thing about endorsements being overrated....you are very wrong...Being in a city like Chicago, New York and LA is MAJOR huge. I know...I saw what it did for Michael Jordan and Sammy Sosa when I worked sports media in Chicago.

Really? The only other 2 athletes that currently come close to name recognition, worldwide appeal and fan popularity would be Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning. Woods isn't affiliated with any one State due to the nature of the individual sport that is golf. Manning on the other hand, plays in Indianapolis, which may be an even smaller market than Cleveland.

I'm telling you, with the mainstream delivery method of media (internet, TV, etc.) these days, a player no longer has to be in a "big market" to earn a big payday.

Before his 23rd B-day, LeBron has already hosted the ESPY Awards and Saturday Night Live. He's already accepted as an International Sport's Icon. LeBron also has secured very lucrative endorsements from many major companies, all without the help of NY or LA.....

Nike- $90 million
Coca-Cola- $14 million
Bubblicious gum- $5 million
Upper Deck (trading cards) $6 million
Juice Batteries- $2 million
Microsoft- $500,000
Cub Cadet (lawnmowers)- $200,000
Powerade- (? undisclosed)
State Farm Insurance- (? undisclosed)
Sprite- (? undisclosed)
Vitamin Water- (? undisclosed)

I'd say he's making a pretty good living and has done just fine for himself here in good ol' Cleveland, Ohio!

Can I get an O-H.........?!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have to agree. The NFL is largely an American fixation. The other football---what we call soccer----is more popular worldwide and basketball is somewhat lower.

As for Lebron going after endorsement money perhaps, No matter what anyone says it is always easier to be a bg name in NY but he is hardly unknown. I think that the real variable will be where can he win a championship. Right now it is pretty unlikely that NY is the right place. But let's see if the current management can get them there---they sure would have a hard time making things worse than they are.

Hr, like everyone else, is thinking 2010. If th Knicks get a point guard in this draft, then clear up money by 2010, oh look who is on the block as free agents . . . LeBron and Wade. I see the sun in the horizon as a Knick fan!

I may be crazy but I think that their biggest need is not a point guard as much as it si finding room under the cap. If possible it might be worthwhile to trade the pick plus one or two inflated contracts and just concentrate on taking the best players available wherever their picks are.

having said that I am not sure who wants some of their players at their current salaries even with a high first round pick.

I dont think LeBron being in a bigmarket is going to increase his endorsement revenue, he already has more national endorsements and adverisers than any other athlete. He also has proven his loyalty by hiring his friends from high school to work his markeying.

Thank you. I concur.

I am not sure if you are agreeing with me or saying that the earlier poster is incorrect. Either way all i am saying is that as big as he is in Cleveland he would be bigger in NY or LA. But at this point I think what might make him leave isa the chance at a title. Normally a NY franchise has certain financial advantages but, given the current state of the knicks I am not sure that they will be contenders for several years. They reallyare ina very big hole.
