Compared to my 6000 the picture on the 921 is DARK on using the componet input.

I guess I will have to have the set re-calibrated unless there is another work around for this...

THe 921 output is darker. When I had the 811 and 921 side-by-side PIP you could see a notable difference.

See attached pics: 3 examples 921 left side. 811 right side.

Recalibrating your TV is not the answer. The levels of your TV are constant. To have your set worked on would still net you a dark picture since the technician is actually adjusting the TV from an internal source rather than the 921 output.

This should(can) be addressed by the 921 software, but it seems that most people quit complaining about it since all these other problems cropped up and now the OTA/guide snafu.

If you notice when you first reboot your 921, the screen is about 5% lighter, then it flickers to a darker state right before it gets done and aquires the satellite signal.

The short answer: No workaround other than adjusting your brightness/contrast as a temp fix.

Mark, are those 811 caps from when the 811 was painfully dark, or after they were overly brightened to compensate?

When the 811 hit the market, it was terrible in terms of screen darkness.

The 811 is the left half of the screen. 510 is on the right. These were taken May 2004.

Pics were not touched. It may be from display glare on my RPTV and that I only had a 1 megapixel cam to take those pics.

I thought the darker 921 was on the left and the 811 on the right. I may have been mistaken. They were taken May 11, 2004. It was too long ago and my brain cells from back then are long gone. :D

Anywho, the fact still remains that having the television ISF calibrated *probably* won't cure the darkness issue that Paradox-SJ is having. My advise is to save the $450.00 calibration fee unless the 'color' is way off and not the brightness. If skin pigment is way to red(red push) and the focus is a bit soft/fuzzy, then by all means calibrate away. :)

I hooked my 921 up last night, and it was much darker and softer than my 6000. At first I used the component from the 921 (while my 6000 uses the RBG connetion). So I then used the DVI/RGB connection from the 921 and it was the same result.

I'm likely going to stay with the 921 due to all of its other advantages, but sure the 6000 has the nicest PQ.
