dell laptop and dvds

A friend of mine has a dell laptop and told me they are having a problem whenever they try to play a dvd they get no audio. if they play a cd, watch something on the net theres no audio issues just with dvd movies. Anyone ever here of something like this? I told her i never did but hopefully someone here can help out.

Sounds like they need to reload the DVD player software that usually comes with the laptop.

or go into the DVD player's software and check what the audio output is set to.

Which version? I also thought the WMP needed an add-on expansion to play DVDs correctly. Might want to check into it. Troubleshooting DVD playback in Windows Media Player for Windows XP

Dell laptops usually come with PowerDVD player preinstalled. You might want to have a look.
