Hi again,

Sorry for such a newbie question, but what is the difference between MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 and how does this difference relate to legal FTA (not pirated) Sat video reception?

Thank you again for putting up with my questions.

MPEG-2 is a trash video codec from 1996 that handles compression very poorly and needs obscene bitrates >40 Mbps to not be filled with macroblocking and detail loss.

H.264 is from the mid-2000's, much better, and doesn't macroblock at low bitrates. It can look as good as >40 Mbps MPEG-2 at bitrates of 20 Mbps

HEVC is the best of all of them.

So what type of FTA box should I get? I have a very small little receiver from china, I think it is called koquit or something. Bought it NIB at a hamfest for 5 bucks.

Thank you again! I will get this going soon!

This is a good choice for a starter receiver. Good place to order from also:

Well, yes, this is true. But I question calling 2, not 3, as high speed. Not a descriptor they needed to use

Best 2 Ku Band Sats for one fixed Ku dish?
